Extrinsic Asthma• In which the asthmatic episode is typically

initiated by a type I hypersensitivity reactioninduced by exposure to an extrinsic antigen.

• Three types of extrinsic asthma are recognized:atopic asthma, occupational asthma (manyforms), and allergic bronchopulmonaryaspergillosis (bronchial colonization withAspergillus organisms followed bydevelopment of immunoglobulin E [IgE]antibodies).
