Chapter 1 – General Information

1. How do I get my Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 and Autodesk Advance Concrete 2015 license? Autodesk will distribute licenses for Autodesk Advance Steel 2015, Autodesk Advance Concrete 2015 and Autodesk AutoCAD 2015 to subscribed customers directly by email.

2. What should I expect to receive? Once GRAITEC has processed your with Autodesk you will receive a confirmation email from Autodesk which includes a link to where you can download the purchased software. If you are a new Autodesk customer you will need to set up an Autodesk account – in this case you will also be sent an email with appropriate instructions.

3. Will I receive media (DVD or USB) from Autodesk? Yes. Autodesk have committed to ship media (DVD for Advance Steel /Concrete software and USB key if you have Advance Steel bundled with AutoCAD) for the 2015 version only. Thereafter, unless you have specifically purchased or requested the media pack at an extra cost, all software media will be delivered as an electronic download only and available via your subscription account. See Chapter 3 below for further details on Subscription Accounts.

4. Historically customers had to send back a previous license to activate the current version - Is this still the case with Autodesk 2015 release? Yes this is still the case.

5. Will my Autodesk 2015 license enable me to run previous versions? No. The Autodesk license you receive only activates the Autodesk version 2015. If you need to access previous versions or to complete projects we strongly advise you keep your 2014 active until you are in a position to switch to 2015 completely.

6. Will I be able to run a previous version of Advance Steel / Concrete after I have installed 2015? In order to run a previous version of Advance Steel / Concrete you must first return the 2015 license issued to you by GRAITEC and then reactivate your previous version license.

7. I use Advance Steel / Concrete on GRAITEC Advance CAD what is the correct procedure for activating Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete 2015 licenses? In order to activate the 2015 Advance CAD license you receive from GRAITEC you must first return your 2014 license to the server. Then simply activate both your Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete 2015 license and the new 2015 license received from GRAITEC.


8. How do I activate my Advance Design ISV that comes with Advance Steel / Concrete 2015? Advance Design ISV is only activated using the 2015 license issued to your by GRAITEC based on the product you have purchased or are entitled to use. Should for whatever reason you experience any problems try return and reactivate 2015 license as this has been known to resolve license issues.

9. Can I install and activate Advance Design ISV on a different computer to my Advance Steel / Advance Concrete software? The license issued by GRAITEC not only activates Advance Design ISV but also features specifically related to Advance Steel / Concrete and GRAITEC Advance CAD too. Whilst it is technically possible to install your Advance Design ISV on a different computer it would not be advisable as this could cause issues.

10. What licenses will I receive for 2015? Licenses and serial numbers for Autodesk software will be sent directly to you by Autodesk. However as a maintained GRAITEC customer you will also receive an additional license from GRAITEC allowing the usage of the following additional solutions (where appropriate):

Advance CAD – You will only receive this if you have purchased or were using Autodesk Advance Steel and/or Autodesk Advance Concrete to run without AutoCAD (previously referred to as ‘Standalone version’)

Advance Design ISV – As a maintained GRAITEC customer you will receive a

professional finite element analysis software which allows the usage of the following:

– modeling structural members (or importing them from Autodesk Advance Steel / Autodesk Advance Concrete)

– cross section libraries – material libraries – mesh engine – the multithread and multicore finite element engine – import / export capabilities – reports generator and post-processing tools

GRAITEC Power Pack - GRAITEC extension for Autodesk Advance Steel.

An exclusive benefit of being a maintained customer of GRAITEC is having access to the Power Pack. GRAITEC will continue to develop applications and enhancements for Autodesk Advance Steel to increase productivity and performance of our customers. The purpose of first Power Pack is to provide you with a competitive advantage and you will benefit from our wealth of experience with finely tuned settings and defaults to optimize your performance, new profiles and bolt libraries, improved drawings styles, and much more. GRAITEC Power Packs will be released quarterly.

The license you receive will depend on the software actual package you have ordered or are entitled to. Please contact your GRAITEC contact if you are unsure.


11. Advance Design ISV looks very capable but I would like to go that little bit

further. Can I upgrade my Advance Design ISV license to a commercial version of Advance Design? Yes. The Advance Design ISV license you have as part of your GRAITEC

maintenance contract is designed to aid you in your daily design routines but of course it can be upgraded to a full version of Advance Design and further enhanced with functionality such as:

– more analysis types (dynamic, time history, non-linear, general buckling, etc…)

– climatic generators – automatic generator of loads combinations – dedicated Eurocode and North American design code package for:

Reinforce Concrete structures Steel structures Timber structures

– more post-processing results

12. How can I download Advance Design ISV software to install? Advance Design ISV will be available via Graitec Advantage and can be downloaded from http://www.graitec.com/en/download_cdimage.asp?ProductID=7

13. Is there a difference between the Advance Design Standard and Advance Design ISV license? Yes, Advance Design ISV is only available for customers who have purchased Advance Steel or Advance Concrete and are a currently maintained customer. Advance Design ISV license is issued automatically as part of your 2015 license. It cannot be purchased as a product on its own.

14. I notice there is now a Power Pack for Advance Steel what is GRAITEC Power Pack? GRAITEC Power Pack will introduce exclusive content and capability only available to our maintained Advance Steel customers not otherwise available in the Autodesk boxed version. The purpose of the GRAITEC Power Pack is to utilize our wealth of expertise in this industry to provide additional value to our customers enabling them to gain more performance and efficiency and a competitive edge over rivals. GRAITEC has delivered expert service and support for over 25 years to Advance Steel customers and we intend to continue to deliver a service which is second to none.

15. Has the Power Pack been released yet? No, we are currently working on the first Power Pack for Advance Steel which was originally planned to be released later in the year however there may be an opportunity to release a version sooner and all possibilities are currently being investigated. As a maintained GRAITEC customer you will be kept informed.

16. What can I expect to get as part of the GRAITEC Power Pack?

The first version of the Power Pack will introduce some fine-tuning adjustments, changes to management settings to improve output and performance, a number of new essential library entries, a ‘polyline spline generator’ for creating construction lines for spiral, helical and elliptical stair stringers and much more. As the Power Pack matures you can expect to see new macros and completely new exclusive functionality become available. More information on the Power Pack will be shared as soon as it finalized.

17. Why is GRAITEC generating licenses for the Power Pack when it isn’t even released yet? Although the Power Pack is not ready to be released just yet GRAITEC needed to distribute licenses for Advance CAD (for those who run Advance Steel without AutoCAD) and Advance Design ISV (provided to all customers with Advance Steel and Advance Concrete when purchased from GRAITEC). Rather than issue multiple licenses it was natural for us to include the Power Pack activation in the single license ready for when the Power Pack becomes available in the near future. As soon as it is available you will be notified and will already be able to take advantage and use these immediately.

18. As a maintained customer how will I know when the Power Pack is available and what is available? We have a number of options which we are considering to ensure our customers have access to the variety of content that will be available and also be able to quickly see and select relevant content whenever you want. This format should also enable you to see what additional tools may be coming soon and available as part of the Power Pack but also new tools that would be available to purchase. More information will be shared on this topic when it becomes available.

19. Do I need to activate the Power Pack license from GRAITEC in order to use Autodesk Advance Steel 2015? No, the license and serial number you receive from Autodesk will activate your Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 software. However it is important to understand that the GRAITEC license activates the Power Pack granting you access exclusive content, it also activates the Advance Design ISV software and Advance CAD software (if this is CAD platform you are entitled to). We would recommend that all customers enable this feature especially if they wish to use any of these unique and beneficial features.

20. How will the GRAITEC license work? There is no change to the process, format or the way GRAITEC deliver licenses to our clients. GRAITEC licenses will continue to be delivered as they have in the past and delivered by email with details of your respective entitlement.

21. I have purchased the “Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 + AutoCAD 2015” bundle license – what does this mean and how can it be used?

• Importantly this license is provided to you by email from Autodesk directly.

• This option is only available from release 2015 and is a single serial number/license which activates both Autodesk Advance Steel and AutoCAD.

• It cannot be split it on 2 computers.

• From the bundle setup you can install Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 and AutoCAD

2015. N.B. Autodesk Advance Steel is activated with the same serial number as the AutoCAD but it is not tied to only AutoCAD it can also be run on Advance CAD if this is installed on the same computer.

• Likewise, the AutoCAD software from the bundle can be run independently as plain AutoCAD but obviously only on the same computer.

• If Autodesk Advance Concrete is also installed on the same computer as the AS+ACAD bundle then the AutoCAD license can be used to run Advance Concrete.

• The AutoCAD license from the bundle should behave as a normal AutoCAD which should allow 3rd party applications to run on the same computer (although this has not been tested by GRAITEC).

22. I have purchased the “Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 + GRAITEC Advance CAD 2015” license – what does this mean and how can it be used?

• In this case you will receive 2 serial licenses: one license from Autodesk for Advance Steel 2015 and one license from GRAITEC for Advance CAD 2015.

• The GRAITEC Advance CAD license allows you to run Advance CAD independently of Autodesk Advance Steel.

• These 2 licenses are not linked and therefore can be theoretically split on 2 computers. In this case, however, you would need to supply an AutoCAD license or another Advance CAD license in order to run Autodesk Advance Steel.

23. What CAD software platforms are compliant with Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete 2015? Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 and Autodesk Advance Concrete 2015 are compliant with GRAITEC Advance CAD 2015 and Autodesk AutoCAD 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Important: Version 2015 of Autodesk Advance Steel and Autodesk Advance Concrete is only available for 64-bit operating systems. Versions for 32-bit operating systems are no longer supplied.

N.B. Autodesk has confirmed that version 2015.1 of Autodesk Advance Steel and Autodesk Advance Concrete is the last one to be compliant with Advance CAD. All versions superior to 2015.1 will no longer support Advance CAD.

24. How do I get a viewer license for Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 and Autodesk Advance Concrete 2015? Installing your 2015 version on a new computer will begin a 30-day trial period, after which the Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete will default to a viewer license. However to operate as a viewer they will still require a CAD platform so you will still need a full authorized version of AutoCAD 2013/2014/2015, a full authorized version of Advance CAD 2015 or an Advance CAD 2015 viewer license.


25. What is a ‘Standalone’ license for Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 / Concrete 2015? The term standalone is used when installing and activating a license on an individual computer. There are 2 types of ‘standalone’ licenses available from Autodesk:

• Standard Stand-alone license A stand-alone license supports one or more Autodesk products for an individual user and computer.

• Multi-seat Stand-alone license This type of license supports a specific number of users, allowing you to install, register, and activate one or more Autodesk products on several computers using a single serial number. This option is not currently available for Advance Steel or Advance Concrete.

26. What flexibility does this have; can I still transfer my license to another computer? Yes, using the License Transfer Utility tool (installed with the software) you are able to export and import a license on another computer. This is the same workflow as AutoCAD and is only available as a service online through your Autodesk Subscription.

27. What is a Home-use license and how does it work? This is feature specific to standalone licenses and refers to the possibility of activating the same license on 2 computers (one at work and one at home) provided that these two instances are not used simultaneously. This restriction is legal and is not an automatic entitlement. Home-use licenses are only via subscription center and managed by you, the client, directly. GRAITEC cannot request or issue a Home use license. Home-use licenses are aligned to expire with your subscription contract.

28. Can I get a Home-use license for Advance Steel 2015 and Advance Concrete 2015? Yes, Home-use licenses are available for both Advance Steel and Advance Concrete via your customer subscription center. As long as you have a current maintenance subscription contract with Autodesk you can request a Home-use license. More information on the requirements and how it works can be found here:

NOTICE: Please note that there is no Home license for the accompanying GRAITEC license. In order to use any GRAITEC software at home or on another computer, you must return the GRAITEC license back to our online server and activated as again as per the existing procedure.

29. What is a Network license for Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 / Concrete 2015 A network license is installed and activated on a company server and supports the use of Autodesk products up to a maximum number of users or “seats” purchased. Users who are connected to the network and have the software installed on their local computer can run the software.






30. Can I borrow a license from the server if we have network license?

Yes, users can borrow licenses from the server. Basically it is the same workflow as for AutoCAD. The license will automatically return to the server when it reaches the expiration date or can be returned when the computer is connected to the network.

31. Do Home license apply is I have a Network License? In order to receive a home license when using a network license you must submit a request to Autodesk via your subscription, where Autodesk will generate a standalone license with a different serial number if granted. Remember Home-use licenses are aligned to expire with the client’s subscription contract.

32. Will Student licenses for Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete 2015 be available? Yes Student licenses for both products will be available as of the 2015 version. To find out more please visit Autodesk student community: http://www.autodesk.com/education/student-software.

33. Will Educational (EDU) / Institution license for Autodesk Advance Steel / Concrete 2015? Autodesk is currently changing their EDU/Institution program, so Advance Steel and Advance Concrete 2015 licenses will not immediately be available for institutions. The new program is rolling out in June for EU and later for rest of the world. Essentially all educational institutions will have access to free ADSK software from Autodesk education community site: http://www.autodesk.com/education/software-for-institutions.

Advance Steel and Advance Concrete 2015 won’t be available to institutions until that time – but those that already own and use the 2014 version can continue using it just as they are now.

34. When will GRAITEC release its 2015 version (Advance Design and Advance CAD)? GRAITEC released Advance Design and Advance CAD 2015 version on 23th April 2014. The First Customer Shipment (electronic) was on 29th April 2014.

Chapter 2 – Licenses

1. How to activate an Autodesk network license? Install on the server the Network License Manager from Advance Steel/Concrete setup:

Start the Network License Manager (LMTOOLS Utility)


Here you have to fulfill the following:

Service Name – write a name for your service. (1) Path to the lmgrd.exe file – should be the following:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Network License Manager\lmgrd.exe (2) For the attached license and log files, you have to create a folder where to copy them. Then, select the path for each file in LMTOOLS.

For example, I created a “LicFile” folder C:\Program Files\Autodesk and my paths for the .lic file and .log file are:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\LicFile\licserver.lic (3) C:\Program Files\Autodesk\LicFile\licserver.log (4) Then, save the service. (5)

!!! The licserver.lic file is the license for AC or AS!!!

Check the option “LMTOOLS ignores license file path environment variables”


Restart the Server.

Install AS/AC on your computer using the provided Serial Number and Product key, and configured like in the image below:

The server model can be different: Single, Distributed, Redundant License Server. Choose the one that fits your network license.


2. How to generate a network license file based on my Autodesk Serial Number? In order to generate a network license file, based on an Autodesk Serial Number, you have to access: https://registeronce.autodesk.com/prodreg/beginRegistration.action

Log in using your ID and Password.

On the first page you have select the Operating System and enter the Serial Number for which you want to generate the product.

In next step choose the Network server type and enter the Host Name and Physical Address.


You will have the confirmation that the license is generated and you will receive an email with the license file you need copy on your Server.


3. Which types of deployment of AutoCAD will work with Advance Steel 2015 (and Concrete 2015)? Here is a breakdown of Standalone and Network Advance Steel 2015/Concrete 2015 and the AutoCAD 2013/2014/2015 that are compatible.

Chapter 3 – Download and Accounts

1. Where do I download the Autodesk Advance Steel 2015 / Autodesk Advance Concrete 2015 products I have purchased? After your order has been processed you should receive an email from Autodesk which contains the product license and the account information which allows you to download the purchased product from your Autodesk Account or Autodesk Subscription.

2. How do I get an Autodesk Subscription account? When you purchase a product with subscription, Autodesk will send you an email with the license for the product(s) you have purchased. You will also be sent details to access your Autodesk Account (https://accounts.autodesk.com) and Autodesk Subscription http://subscription.autodesk.com. If you are new to Autodesk Account/Subscription Center, you will also receive a welcome email with your login information.

3. How do I access the Autodesk Subscription Center? In order to access Autodesk Subscription please use the link provided in the email or click http://subscription.autodesk.com.

I already have an account If you already have an account please use your credentials to log in: User ID and Password.

4. What are the benefits of Autodesk subscription? Some of the benefits of Autodesk subscription are:

Software upgrades Download the latest version(s) of your Autodesk software product(s) or, if needed, you can request physical media, once the upgrade has released.

Download extensions for your Autodesk product.

Technical Support Find answers to your support questions fast and easy through self-help options or take advantage of the one-on-one support offered via web or phone (if purchased). Please note that technical support is not available in all languages in all regions for all products.

Flexible license: - Work with previous version of your software; - Home license – available only if you are a contract administrator. Request serial numbers that will allow your employees to use licenses on a home computer.

Note: The Home Use tab is only available in the Subscription Center if you have Network licenses.

Your license of Autodesk Advance Steel is a Standalone license. Standalone licensing inherently comes with two activations per seat.

These activations can be used for a work computer and a 2nd computer such as a home computer or a laptop.

They are still only for one user and should not be open at the same time, however you can simply use the same Serial Number and Product Key to activate this license at home.
