Entry Requirements GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS TO ADVANCE DIPLOMAIN TRAUMA AND EMERGENCY CARE:

Possess a Diploma in Medical Assistant or Diploma in Nursing and registered with respective Board; or

Diploma in Paramedic Science; or

Diploma in other health sciences related to clinical accredited by MQA and approved by the CollegeAcademic Committee

Presently working in clinical setting with at least 1 year of work experience in Emergency and Trauma department.

Advance Diploma in Trauma & Emergency Care is a skills based programme that empowers students to render the highest quality in emergency care. This programme prepares students with the competencies to handle complex illness and traumatic injuries for sustaining critical situations and preventing major impairments.

This programme will enable students to establish a preparatory process and appropriate procedures for sustaining life situations. It will enable students to determine appropriate treatment through clinical assessment and investigations based on scientific evidence. Students will be able to perform a complete physical examination and assessment of the patient in an emergency and be able to administer emergency drugs based on the situation at hand.

Students will be able to sub-specialize in any one of the following areas in Trauma Management, Pre-Hospital Care, Emergency Cardiac Management and Pediatrics Emergencies.

ProgrammeOverview

Learning OutcomesStudents are equipped with the required knowledge in all areas of emergency and trauma and thus are prepared to handle clinical and interpersonal situations in the emergency and trauma unit.

As part of the programme, the students are required to successfully complete clinical training. This clinical placement exercise ensures that the theory learnt in the classrooms is put into practice and in addition, exposes students to real life situations.

Students will be equipped with skills such as communication, leadership and teamwork with knowledge and skills to develop the attitude of working as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

The programme has incorporated skills such as critical thinking and problem solving skills. This will enable students to use scientific evidence in the application of the knowledge while stimulating critical thinking and problem solving skills.
