Appendix 1

Provincial Data

The data in this appendix is a comparative look at the responses from learners who

participated in the learner survey in both 2008 and 2010. It represents the participating

school boards that deliver adult non-credit language training across Ontario.

Questions 1-9 provide a general overview of learner demographics between 2008 and 2010.

Questions 10-25 provide both a comparative look at overall learner responses between

2008 and 2010 and a detailed breakdown of their responses based upon the length of time

in Canada, first language class, age, gender, and highest level of education attained. The

breakdown is provided in order to assist in further identifying trends and needs.

Several questions, such as question 20, allowed learners to select all responses that should

be applied to them. Therefore, we have included a responses column that identifies the total

number of responses received followed by a case column. The case column identifies the

number of learners that responded to this question.

Appendix 2

Toronto Catholic District School Board Data

(Short version)

The data in Appendix 2 is a compilation of responses from learners in your school board

who participated in the 2010 survey. It is provided in a comparative chart format with

the 2008 data.

Questions 1-9 provide a general overview of learner demographics.

Questions 10-25 provide a summary of learner responses about their course, their

reasons for attending and their needs for language training. See Appendix 4 for a

detailed breakdown of responses in your region based upon their length of time in

Canada, first language class attended, age, gender and highest level of education

attained.

Several questions, such as question 20, allowed learners to select all responses that

should be applied to them. Therefore, we have included a responses column that

identifies the total number of responses received followed by a case column. The case

column identifies the actual number of learners that responded to this question.

Ontario / TCDSB Data Comparison Charts

The charts in this section compare responses from all participating learners in Ontario

with learners from your school board to each of the 26 survey questions.

Several charts, such as Question 5 – In what country were you born, include the ‘top

ten’ overall provincial responses. These responses may not match the top responses

from your board’s learners. This is normal because individual school board responses

can vary significantly from overall provincial responses. Please refer to Appendix 4 for a

detailed breakdown of school boards in your region.

Appendix 4

Toronto Catholic District School BoardDETAILED BREAKDOWN

This appendix provides a detailed comparative summary of learner data for your school board, based

on the 2008 and 2010 surveys.

Please note that the data for questions 1-9 (see Appendix 2) provides an overview of learner

demographics and therefore has not been included in this section.

Questions 10-25 provide both learner responses and a detailed breakdown of their responses based

upon the length of time in Canada, first language class, age, gender, and highest level of education

attained, using 2010 data only.

Several questions, such as question 20, allowed learners to select all responses that applied to

them. Therefore, we have included a responses column that identifies the total number of responses

received followed by a case column. The case column identifies the number of learners that

responded to this question.

A listing of all school boards that participated in the 2010 survey can be found on page 6 of the report.
