What Defines Adult Learners

in Higher Education?

“Nontraditional students are those who have at least one of the following characteristics: they delay postsecondary enrollment one year or more after high school graduation, enroll part time, are employed full time, are financially independent of their parents, have dependents other than a spouse, are single parents, or do not have a high school diploma (National Center for Education Statistics, 2002).” (Compton et al. 2006).
