If you have taken a look at East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Education service recently, you may have been surprised by what you have seen.
We now have three new area teams in the north, east and west to ensure our offer meets the needs of each community.
In our 2010 Ofsted inspection we were graded as good across the board, with an outstanding grade for our equality and diversity work.
Our aim: to be a responsive service, able to work closely with partners to offer what is needed in our communities with high quality and great value for money.
Did you know?Across the East Riding we have introduced work skills clubs in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to provide skills improvement and employability support to the unemployed. In fact many of our courses provide learners with the vital skills and self-confidence needed to be work ready or to make that career change they may have thought about.
We are also introducing new courses for business, including the A.A.T. Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and also our own, bespoke course, Inside Our Workspace - Changing Thought Processes in Leadership and Management.
We also have a wide range of full-cost Masterclass courses this year, some aimed at business start-up and turning your skills into a self-employment reality.
We have also introduced Masterclasses in our creative and language areas to give learners a wider choice of subjects and more flexibility over how, where and when they want to learn.
If you enjoy learning as a family, then we have many courses across the East Riding where you and your child can learn together, as well as a host of special holiday courses to keep your children happy over the summer break.
We have recently installed video-conferencing equipment in our Bridlington, Cottingham and Goole centres. This will be available as a new way to learn and will help us in providing this wider range of courses across the East Riding.
In Beverley we are offering one day experiences in exciting subjects including Forensic Facial Reconstruction and Forensic Crime Scene Reconstruction.
In Goole we are offering new ESOL materclasses as a new way to learn this established subject and we have also introduced a new Psychology GCSE to this centre.
In Cottingham we have introduced a new range of arts and craft courses, covering a wide range of media from watercolours, textiles and sugarcrafts to pastel drawing, pottery and digital photography. We are also delivering a range of courses in this centre for those who work in education and training.
In Bridlington we have established new jewellery making courses and are delivering our popular literacy, numeracy and ECDL courses, as well as new entry level “Start” qualifications in both Office and Media Software to suit a wider range of learners.
In Withernsea we have recently started delivering from a new centre in the middle of the town, next to the Leisure Centre. The Hut, as it is known, is an excellent venue to learn from, with ample free parking, so drop in and see what we have on offer.
Our new purpose built centres in Bridlington and Cottingham can also provide an excellent venue for your conference as well as being great places to learn.

Alternatively visit: www.eastriding.gov.uk/findacourse to use our online course finder and booking system.
For each course there is a venue code and the centre contact details in a coloured box. In the centre details on pages 3-5 there is a key to the venue codes.
The cost of the course appears in the left hand column. For accredited courses there are two possible fees: full or free, depending upon fee waivers. For non-accredited courses there is full fee or 50% reduction depending on certain criteria. The cost of accreditation appears at the end. Please note, due to funding regulations all non-accredited courses are for 19+ only, unless those aged 16-18 are willing to pay a full-cost fee.
For further information regarding course fees and waivers visit: www.eastriding.gov.uk/adultedcosts
For example, if you want to enrol on the Start Using Office Software course below:

You may also qualify for a fee reduction or waiver if you meet the criteria listed on our website at: www.eastriding.gov.uk/adultedcosts. Alternatively, you may wish to apply to our Learner Support Fund to help with such things as travel, equipment or exam fees. This fund is limited however and there are restrictions on how it may be used.
For details on learner support and the financial help that may be available to you, please visit:www.eastriding.gov.uk/adultedsupport, or alternatively call your nearest adult education centre, where a member of our team will be happy to help you with any course or cost related query you may have.
You will either pay £89 for a course and £38 for the exam, or the course will be free and you may be able to claim the exam costs through the Learner Support Fund.
