Mudford Road Learning Resource Centre

Designed to support the needs of all our different learners, the Learning Centre is equipped with a comprehensive selection of up-to-date resources including books, ebooks, journals, online subscriptions, WiFi and over 50 PCs. Students are supported by knowledgeable Learning Centre Staff, who can help in finding resources and accessing the computers.

The LRC is also home to support services, including the Student & Customer Services Team, which can advise on applications, financial support and travel, IT and more.

Motor Vehicle CentreA specialist campus on Seaton Mews in Yeovil, the Motor Vehicle Centre (MVC) is a purpose-built modern centre, with both workshop and classroom facilities.

North Dorset Technical College (NDTC)Located in Shaftesbury, NDTC offers a selection of Construction, Hair and Beauty training, including Apprenticeships and full and part-time courses. Facilities include:

Our Courses

In this guide, you will find out about our part-time adult courses. Broadly, we offer three types:

Professional Qualifications

Often the industry-standard diploma, certificate or award for a particular sector. These include Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) accountancy courses, Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) awards and NVQs in subjects such as Hairdressing or Professional Cookery.

Leisure & Pleasure Courses

Designed to help you have fun developing a skill or hobby. These include our popular cake decorating classes, photography or bread making, basic car maintenance and many more.

Apprenticeships

These are available at Intermediate, Advanced and Higher levels. Yeovil College offers more than 30 different Apprenticeship frameworks, all of which can be tailored to your particular job role. Find out more on page 67.

All of our courses have a Level. For example, GCSEs are a Level 2 course, while A Levels are level 3. Looking at the level of the qualifications you already have will help you choose what to do next and help you see what you could do in the future. Your journey does not have to end with one course, there may be other places you can go.

Previously part of the now discontinued City & Guilds 2391 qualification, the EAL 4337 Certificate specifically covers the initial verification and completion of the relevant paperwork and the practical aspects of inspecting and testing a new installation, with the Periodic Inspections now being under a separate qualification, EAL 4338.

The qualification is based on Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing, published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and is designed for suitably qualified electricians looking to progress within the industry.

What is an Apprenticeship?An Apprenticeship is a real job with training. They give you the opportunity to work for an actual business or organisation, earn a salary and gain nationally and internationally recognised qualifications, useful workplace skills and valuable experience.

The training is specifically tailored to ensure you develop the skills the employer wants, giving apprentices a real advantage in the workplace. This means that apprentices not only have better long term salary prospects, but they also have excellent progression opportunities, whether looking to study further or climb the ranks within the workplace.

Can I do an Apprenticeship?If you live in England, are over 16 and not in full-time education, you can apply for an Apprenticeship.

I’m already employed. Can I do an Apprenticeship?If you have already found a job or placement, you may be able to convert it in to an Apprenticeship. Check with your employer to see if they are happy to discuss the idea of you becoming an apprentice. Then, contact our friendly Apprenticeships team on 01935 845392 or via [email protected] for advice on what to do next.

What does an Apprenticeship include?Apprenticeships usually include:• A nationally recognised vocational qualification• A technical certificate, such as a BTEC or City & Guilds qualification• Other professional qualifications needed for your particular job role• Functional Skills qualifications, including English, Maths and ICT, if required

What types of Apprenticeships are there?There are three types of Apprenticeship you can apply for depending on your current skills and qualifications:• Intermediate (Level 2, the same level as GCSEs)• Advanced (Level 3, the same level as some vocational courses and A Levels)• Higher (Level 4 or above, undergraduate level)

All course fees shown are payable at the start of your course. Fees can be paid by:

Paying by instalmentsIf your course fees are £250 or more, then you may be able to pay by instalments. There is an administration fee of £25 payable with the first instalment. The balance will be collected by Direct Debit in no more than four equal instalments over consecutive months. If you leave a course early, all outstanding fees will be payable in full.

Travelling from the East, West or NorthFrom the A303, take the A37 for Ilchester exit - join A37. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout heading towards Yeovil. Follow this road for several miles. At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit for Ilchester Road. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto Mudford Road. Yeovil College main entrance will be 1st turning on your left.

Travelling from the SouthTake the A37 to Yeovil. At the roundabout, take the second exit to join the A30. At the next roundabout, take the second exit to join the dual carriageway, which ends with the Yeovil District Hospital roundabout. Take the first exit and continue along the dual carriageway until you reach the Fiveways roundabout. Join the right hand lane and take the third exit (Mudford Road). Yeovil College’s main entrance is approximately 200m along the road on the left hand side. Reception is in the round building straight ahead.
