The Adult Care Worker Level 2 is for someone who provides frontline care for vulnerable adults within their own homes, day care centres, residential and nursing homes and other healthcare settings.

On completion of this 12 month standard, apprentices will demonstrate a range of excellent skills such as helping adults with care and support needs to live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person centred care.

The Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working with adults in Health and Social Care. The different pathways provide learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their competence if they work with individuals in certain specialisms i.e. Community Support.

A Skill Scan is completed to assess the learner’s suitability for the qualification. This helps to establish which Diploma Pathway would be most applicable with the learner’s job role.

Section 3: Question B - Pathway questioning No YesDo you support people who have dementia to eat and drink? E.g. you take into account their life history when supporting them to choose meals. Do you support people to carry out activities in line with their care plan? E.g. you follow the care plan and record choices made and changes that happen. Do you support people who have dementia in a person centred way? E.g. you involve people who have dementia in making choices and decisions. Do you support people who have dementia to make choices and stay safe? E.g. you support them in a suitable environment to ensure they are able to do as much as possible and achieve their potential.Do you use active support? E.g. you provide a range of activities and break them into manageable steps. Do you adapt your communication to meet the needs of people who have dementia? E.g. You use their care plan and life history to make sure interactions are positive.

If answer ‘Yes’ to ALL the above questions then the Dementia Care pathway is for you. Now complete Section 4.

If answer ‘Yes’ to ALL the above questions then the Community Support pathway is for you. Now complete Section 4.

E.g. you use appropriate PPE, ensure waste is disposed of correctly and support others to minimise the spread of infection.

Do you support person centred thinking and planning? E.g. you support people to communicate, be part of the community and have maximum choice over their lives. Do you encourage people to eat and drink healthily? E.g. you work with the individual and others to plan and encourage a balanced diet. Do you support people to access services and facilities? E.g. you support people to find, use and give feedback on services on facilities such as shops, medical services, libraries, public transport etc. Do you work as part of a team? E.g. you communicate with and support other team members, whether in person or remotely.

If answer ‘Yes’ to ALL the above questions then the Specialised Support - Learning Disabilities pathway is for you. Now complete Section 4.

READINESS FOR EPA EPA CRITERIA HOW IT IS DELIVERED KEY INFORMATION

SELF EVALUATION Submitted to End Point Assessor as evidence for Professional Discussion

CARE CERTIFICATE The 15 Standards set out within the Care Certificate must be met

DIPLOMA RQF Level 2 Diploma in Care must be completed

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS English and Maths Functional Skills must be achieved at Level 1 and attempted Level 2

GATEWAY DISCUSSION Training provider, learner and employer have a face to face gateway conversation to all verify they are in agreement that the learner is ready for EPA to begin.

EPA READINESS FORM Completed and sent to Innovate to allow for planning meeting to take place.

PLANNING MEETING scheduled with Innovate’s End Point Assessor, learner and employer.

Situational Judgement Test (50%)

ON DEMAND TEST – The situational judgment test will present the apprentice with a range of real-life scenarios on which they will have to answer questions in a multiple-choice question format (MCQs). The assessment will normally be undertaken on line and in a ‘controlled environment’ i.e. a quiet room, away from normal place of work with an invigilator present.

The test will comprise of 60 questions which will be drawn from the knowledge and skills elements of the standard and focus on the apprentice’s ability to apply knowledge into practice. The test will last for 90 minutes. A selection of questions will be used from each module within the standard.

Pass – 40 correct answers

Merit – 50 or more correct answers

Distinction – 55 or more correct answers

Learners achieving between 25 and 39 correct answers may retake the assessment on one further occasion within three months. Candidates achieving fewer than 25 correct answers will not be allowed to retake the assignment until they have completed a professional review of performance and acted on its findings.

Professional Discussion (50%)

PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION – The professional discussion will cover the Adult Care Worker’s skills and their experience of applying the apprenticeship standard in the workplace. This will also include an element of checking parts of the required knowledge.

The discussion will last 30-45 minutes. The discussion will draw questions and amplifications from the content of learning and the apprentice’s self-assessment

Candidates can only apply to undertake the discussion component once the multiple choice assessment has been achieved. The End Point Assessor will award either a Pass, Merit or Distinction for the Profession Discussion.
