“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon

you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea

and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Ever been in a situation and all of a sudden the power went out? It is sort of

unnerving. We are very dependent on power. Think about how your life would

change if you had no electricity. We are pretty dependent on power but rarely

are aware of it until there is an interruption.

Jesus was telling his disciples in Acts 1:8 about the power they needed to de-

pend on. He promised that the Holy Spirit was coming to give them power and

that this power would change things. And that is exactly what happened.

Those early Christians were given tremendous power to accomplish great

things for the glory of God. This passage shares one way they used the power

of the Holy Spirit and that was being witnesses. With God’s strength they

shared what they had seen and what they heard about Jesus.

We, too, have access to this power. So many times, though, we try to live

without that kind of power. We seek to live in our own strength and ability, as

a result, when we are hit with all of the daily challenges of life, we become

depleted and run out of power. Live in the power of the Holy Spirit, pray that

he will fill you, guide you, and strengthen you this week. Pray that God would

do something powerful through you with His strength and enablement. Go and

express what you have read, heard, and know of Jesus.

When in a power outage I sure am glad when the power comes back on, and

that we have the benefit of electrical power, but I am more thankful that we

have the power of the Holy Spirit available to us.
