“The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a message of freedom and a force for liberation. In recent years, this essential truth has become the ob-ject of reflection for theologians, with a new kind of attention which is itself full of prom-ise.”
Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Instruction on Certain Aspects of the “Theology of Liberation”
“I know that you don’t want to be duped by a false freedom, always at the beck and call; of momentary fashions and fads. I know that you are aiming high, at long-lasting decisions which are meaningful.”
Pope Francis, July 27, 2013
Religion must not be an empty ritual. Our re-ligion calls us to action…to speak up for jus-tice, to serve the poor and all who are in need, to be aware of the struggles of the world, to work for the liberation of the op-pressed, to relax in a deep trust in God, to in-clude all people in our circle of community, to be a light to the world in the midst of dark-ness, to set people free, to proclaim justice for all, to be on fire with faith, hop, and love.
This calls to mind the words of Pope Francis at the World Youth Day in Brazil in 2013: “Young people, please: don’t put yourselves at the tail end of history. Be active members! Go on the offensive! Play down the field, build a better world, a world of brothers and sisters, a world of justice, of love, of peace, of fraternity, of solidarity. Play always on the offensive!”

Are you looking for a satisfying but flexible volun-teer opportunity? Peninsula Food Runners is a vol-unteer organization dedicated to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste. We are building our volunteer base in Santa Clara County and invite you to join us. Peninsula Food Runners volunteers pick up excess perishable and prepared food from participating Do-nors (restaurants, caterers, bakeries, corporate cafe-terias, etc.), and then deliver the food directly to our Recipients (shelters, day centers for the elderly, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc.). Shifts normally take less than 90 minutes and can work around your schedule. Come join our team of volunteers! Go to peninsulafoodrunners.org and register under Volunteer Sign-Up. Questions: email Molly Rhine at [email protected] or call (408) 396-8705.
