Last year, Bethany engaged National Adoption Month with the theme “Opening the Dialogue.” We encouraged your congregation to ask tough

questions, share unique stories, and encourage others in their adoption journeys.

This year, we aim to deepen the conversation by spotlighting “The Missing Voice” in many adoption conversations: adoptees.

Too often parents’ voices dominate the adoption conversation.

Generally positive narratives—stories of welcoming happy kids

with open arms, of fulfilling a biblical call to care for orphans—

often downplay the complexities of adoption and the

viewpoints of the children involved.

Incorporating adoptees’ stories can balance the

discourse around adoption.
