Youth Years

In 1914, he moved to Linz, Austria because his dad was fighting in WWI with the Austro-Hungarian army

In 1920, he went back to Germany with his family

In 1921, he left school not completing his education

He held various jobs during the 20’s like working as a sales representative

The Beginning in the Nazi Party

By a friend’s advice, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, he joined the Nazi party in 1932

In 1933, he was appointed an SS-Mann, and assigned the SS number 45326

In September 1934 Eichmann landed a position in Heydrich's SD, the powerful SS security service

In 1935, he was in charge of the “Jewish question” in Berlin in the security service

Before World War II

He studied all aspects of the Jewish culture and become the “Jewish Specialist”

In 1937, he went to Palestine to explore emigration of the Jews from Germany

In August 1938, he was in charge of the emigration office for Jews in Vienna

In March 1939, he began deportation of Jews to Poland

During World War II

In October 1939, he was appointed adviser of the “evacuation” of Jews and Poles

In December 1939, he was transferred to the Gestapo to take over Jewish affairs

He was responsible for implementing “The final solution”

In the summer of 1941, he began creating the death camps, developing gassing techniques and organizing convoys of Jews to their death

In 1941, he first visited Auschwitz and he was promoted to SS Lieutenant-Colonel

Under Hitler’s order, he started mass deportation of Jews from Germany

In 1942, he organized the Wannsee conference which consolidated his position as “Jewish Specialist” and entrusted him with the “Final Solution”

The discussion in the conference covered the elimination of the Jews

In March 1944, he became a public personality in Budapest known as the “Desk Murderer”

In August 1944, he sent communication to Himmler, a Nazi commander, estimating that 6 millions Jews have been killed

Himmler ordered him to halt the extermination and destroy the evidence of the “Final Solution”

He continued his work in Hungary against official order

After World War II

In August 1945, he was captured by the US army

In 1946, he escaped and hid in various parts of Germany

In 1948, he received a landing permit from Argentina which he did not use immediately

In 1950, he went to Italy as a refugee under the name of Ricardo Klement

Later in 1950, he moved to live in Buenos Aires, Argentina with his family

The Trial

He was captured in May 1960 by Israeli Authorities in Argentina

Nine days later, after his capture, he was secretly abducted to Israel where he was tried in Jerusalem

Many Holocaust survivors testified against him

He was charged with 15 counts including crimes against Jewish people and crimes against humanity

He was also charged with membership in criminal organizations: the Storm Troopers (SA), Security Service (SD), and Gestapo (all of which had been declared criminal organizations at the 1946 Nuremberg Trial)

With his trial, the world had the chance to see more closely the atrocities of the Nazis in World War II

His trial lasted from April 2 to August 14, 1961
