  • Expanded program on Immunization (EPI) History; Jordan

    -Established in June 1979 - Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, TB)

    - 1st Measles, and Tetanus Toxoid for women in child bearing age – 1982

    - 4th dose of polio 1993 ( with measles at 9 months)

    - Hepatitis “B” and second dose Measles ( 18 months)– 1995

    - MMR replaced Measles vaccine as a second dose in 2000

  • Continue ….

    - Hib started in July 2001 - IPV (inactivated polio) replaced OPV1 in 2005

    and the 2nd dose IPV at July 2006. - MMR first dose for children at age of 12

    months in 2008 - 2015 Rota virus vaccine

    School children who were completely vaccinated 1st Class OPV +Td + checked for MMR (2 doses) 10th class Td + check for MMR ( 2 doses)

    Validate the primary vaccination (preschool program) Vaccinate the unvaccinated children according to national

    program

    The 2nd Validation vaccination at 4th and 7th classes

  • Campaigns & follow up activities in schools

    Catch up campaign: - - 1997 using measles vaccine for school children (6-

    15 years)- 1999 using measles vaccine for pre school children

    (4-6 years)- 2013 using measles , rubella ( MR) vaccine from 6

    months to 20 years .

  • Campaigns & follow up activities in schools continue ….

    Follow up activities- Rubella vaccine was given for 11th and 12th class school girls ( birth cohort 1987-1988), -MMR vaccine was given to school children in 3 phases :

    - 1st phase in 1st half of 2005 (2nd and 10th class )- 2nd phase in 2005-2006 (4th,5th,6th and 10th class)- 3rd phase in 2007-2008 ( 8th,9th,&10th class)

  • TT vaccination ( Pregnant not vaccinated before)

    1st pregnancy at 1st contact 1st TT dose After One month from the 1st dose 2nd TT

    2nd pregnancy 3rd dose

    3th pregnancy 4th dose

    4th pregnancy 5th dose

  • TT of women in child bearing age

    1. 1st dose 1st contact 2. 2nd dose one month after the 1st dose3. 3rd dose 6months after the 2nd dose4. 4th dose at least one year after the 3rd dose5. 5th dose at least one year after the 4th dose

  • Vaccination for Extra groups

  • Meningitis vaccine meningitis vaccine is given to :

    - Pilgrims - contact of cases - high risk groups

  • HBV HBV is given to :

    - Health workers - contact of cases - high risk groups ( hemodialsis patients , prisoners

  • Influenza vaccine influenza vaccine is given to :

    - Health workers - Pilgrims - high risk groups

  • Opportunities High political commitment to EPI well established and distributed all over country EPI

    program High acceptance for vaccination from population well trained staff Well and functional NITAG ( represents all health

    sectors and Academia ) the school health program is under the MOH

  • Challenges Little information about the preventable diseases at

    this age group . Misconceptions information regarding vaccination of

    adults . shortage of funds for research about the burden of

    diseases at this age group Turnover of staff . Refugees
