ADMISSIONS GUIDE

Page 2: admissions information sheet2 - universalschool.id · school is a dynamic and relaxed place where our pupils can begin to discover answers to who and what they aspire to be. Introduction

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make for your child’s future, so we are delighted that you are considering Universal School for your child. We are dedicated to providing a quality education. Our teachers provide the children with an opportunity to achieve their true potential through a combination of high expectations and an encouraging atmosphere.

As children progress through Universal School, teachers and support assistants provide challenges and support appropriate to each child’s level. Values such as compassion, respect and friendliness are an integral part of the school ethos. Clear boundaries and simple rules make Universal School a happy and safe place to learn.

A strong work ethic permeates the school and all of our teachers are committed to delivering the very best of the University of Cambridge International Examinations curriculum. We also understand that for this to be successful there has to be an emphasis upon the enjoyment inherent in learning. A major strength of our school is its rich cultural mix, with children from a wide variety of countries. Our children learn to make friends and mix with people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds making it an ideal place to prepare for life in a rapidly changing, increasingly multi-cultural world.

Teaching and learning is enquiry based with an emphasis on problem solving and aims to build up pupils' abilities as learners. Work takes place both individually and in groups. Class sizes are generally small which allows for greater personal attention to each pupil's learning needs. Mandarin is also a major element of the curriculum at the school enabling pupils to learn one of the world's most important languages. Music, sport, drama and educational trips together with a range of other activities form an integral part of a broad curriculum that aims to help students learn essential skills, discover a range of interests and develop the confidence to pursue new challenges.

Great importance is given to pupil's conduct and behaviour. School rules are comprehensive and firm. They are based on the principle of discipline, respect and consideration for others. A positive and helpful demeanour is encouraged and rewarded. We also encourage pupils from an early age to take responsibility for their community.

The school runs a house system. Every pupil belongs to one of four houses (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter). Within their houses pupils take positions of responsibility, compete against other houses in sport and music and work towards common goals in a range of areas. The school is a dynamic and relaxed place where our pupils can begin to discover answers to who and what they aspire to be.

School Dress Code Policy

Universal School requires students to abide by the Dress Code Policy. The Universal School dress code is designed with neatness, modesty, simplicity, safety and efficiency in mind.

Schools with an enforced dress code tend to be places that are more serious about learning, with students more focused on their schoolwork. This atmosphere promotes better discipline and attendance, which leads to higher achievement. The whole issue of fashion competition among peers is immediately diffused when a school dress code is put in place. Trends and fads are distracting to students and it takes needed attention away from the day’s lessons. While certain individuals may believe that a uniform robs students of their individuality, we believe that it challenges students to express themselves in other more meaningful ways.

Universal School students wear approved clothing whilst on school property during normal school hours and on school sponsored outings. The approved clothing is worn throughout the academic school year. Please review the guidelines carefully with your child(ren) to ensure compliance with the Dress code Policy.
