are you ready?
See why BSC was lauded as
just one of 40 schools nationwide “outdoing the lvy League schools and the major universities in producing winners,” according to the book Colleges That Change Lives. CTCL especially praised BSC for its commitment to experiential education: “The curriculum emphasizes one of the college’s long-standing assets: experiential learning in the form
of independent studies, student-faculty research, service learning, and study away.”

Birmingham is called the “Magic City” for good reason. It’s rich with parks, museums, and cultural and entertainment options—plus countless opportunities to learn outside the classroom. We’re just two miles from downtown, so you can go from campus to a hands-on project and back in minutes. And we’re a short drive from the verdant Appalachian Mountains and beautiful Gulf Coast beaches.

“Birmingham is a progressive city and there’s a lot of cool stuff going on. I spent the summer as an intern at Piper Place, a center for adults with severe mental illness, a position that’s only open to BSC students. I got to learn so much and it helped me discover my true passion. Now I want to go into occupational therapy or become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.”
Shelby Kilepsychology major with minors in biology and human rights and conflict studies
We know you learn best by doing. Our rise3 program challenges you to apply what you learn to the real world. Choose from research projects, internships, or service-learning conducted in courses or on your own. Imagine a business class on arts marketing, collaborating with a scientist on cancer drugs, learning leadership by serving in the inner city, or teaching English overseas. The possibilities are endless.

Live with your new best friends. Have lunch with a professor—or even the college president!—in the Cafe. Study late-night in the library, or take it outside to our Ecoscape and lake park. Watch the sun rise over the city. Be a star on the field, the court, or the stage. Try a new sport, run through the woods, explore the mountains nearby, or cheer on one of BSC’s 22 NCAA Division III teams. #goPanthers!
