“SPECIAL BURSARY” 2018

Eligibility
Applications are open to all Competitors 18 years and under. Applicants must have competed in at least 4 Items in the current year’s Eisteddfod.
Applicants are not restricted to one particular Art Form and can be in any, or all, of those listed in the current Schedule. Group Items may be included.
Applications close 31st August, each year. No late applications will be accepted.
Purpose of Bursary:
The Bursary is a $500 grant, which will be awarded to the successful applicant.
The purpose of the grant is to further pursuits in any art form by the successful applicant thus enabling her/him to access Master Classes, Workshops, other tuition, or art form related music / literature.
The successful applicant will be required to furnish the Committee with details regarding the expenditure of the Bursary within a 12 month period.
The Selection Panel’s decision will be final.

CONDITIONS
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1. Competitors may appear only once in any one item – the exception being in instrumental items where a competitor plays a totally different instrument.
2. Junior Competitors in individual or duet items must purchase a Ticket.
Junior Competitors in Group Items will be admitted free for that item only.

4. ENTRIES CLOSE: 20th April, 2018
PLEASE NOTE: Late entries may not be accepted.
5. Entry fees are not refundable.
6. Where an age limit is stated, competitors must be the age as at 1st January, 2018.
7. Competitors in an Open Section may be any age.
8. Acceptance of an entry by the Committee is conditional upon the
competitor/guardian agreeing to the publishing of the competitor’s name in the Eisteddfod Programme, and the results and/or photograph in the media.
9. The pitch of the piano is C522.
10. No piece may be repeated within the Eisteddfod by the same competitor.
11. Competitors must appear at times shown in the official programme. Because
of the use of multiple venues, the conductors of sessions reserve the right to change the order of appearance of competitors in any item.
12. To compete in Championship Items, Competitors must have performed in
at least three (3) other individual items in that art form. (Woodwind/Brass Competitors may include a duet).
(b) If playing more than one instrument in the Instrumental Championship, the Competitor must play both pieces on the same instrument and have competed in two other individual items with that instrument.
13. In Own Choice items, a copy of the Competitor’s selection for the use of the Adjudicator must be emailed to the Secretary [email protected] NO LATER THAN 14th JULY, 2018.

14. OWN CHOICE MATERIAL. Content and presentation must be suitable to be performed at an Eisteddfod. Careful consideration should be given to the use of language that could be considered offensive. Inappropriate material will be rejected by the Committee.
15. The Adjudicator’s decision is final. Adjudicators have the power to withhold or
divide prizes. 16. Time limits for each item must be observed. An item may be shorter than the
limit, but not exceed it. 17. Intending competitors who have been pupils of an Adjudicator within the last
twelve (12) months will be ineligible to enter any item judged by the Adjudicator.
18. Competitors, teachers, parents, guardians cannot communicate with the
adjudicator until the competitor has completed his/her final competition. 19. Strict rules will be applied in regard to numbers of participants in group items as
stated in the schedule. 20. Members of a group in all Art Forms must remain the same if two pieces are
required in any given item. Substitutions will not be permitted.
(a) No amplification of voice in any art form is permitted the exception being Stage Band.
21. STAGE BAND: If performing more than one piece, a vocalist may sing in ONE
selection only (Vocalist Optional). Amplification is to be supplied by the Competitor and approved by the Committee.
22. In the vocal items where piano accompaniment is required, competitors must
use the piano provided.

BURSARIES AND SPECIAL AWARDS – JUNIOR COMPETITORS ONLY
23. Bursaries of $200 may be offered in each art form. The selection of Bursary and Special Award winners is the sole decision of the Adjudicator. Adjudicators have the power to withhold bursaries and/or special awards.
24. To receive a Bursary or Special Award in Piano, Vocal and Speech Sections,
competitors must have performed in at least 4 individual items within that art form.
To receive a Bursary or Special Award in the Instrumental Section, competitors must have performed in at least 2 individual items, 1 duet and 1 group item within that art form.
To receive a Bursary or Special Award in the Dance Section competitors must have performed in at least 3 individual items plus 1 group or duet item within that art form.
25. Bursary winners and Championship winners may be the same person.
RULES GOVERNING COMPETITION
26. AMCOS COPYRIGHT LAWS a) If the Competitor is not performing from memory, or where both the work
and edition are not out of copyright (Composer/lyricist/arranger ALL died before 1955 and the edition publication date was more than 25 years ago.), an original or licensed photocopy must be used in the performance. This original can be a borrowed original – i.e borrowed from a Library, friend or another competitor etc. A photocopy may be handed in for the use of the Adjudicator The Eisteddfod Committee will destroy same at the conclusion of that Session.
b) The Committee will not be responsible for any infringement of Copyright Laws.
c) The Association holds a CAL Licence No. 6661 and complies with current
APRA licencing agreements.
27. RECORDING: The use of any recording devices or photographic equipment during an Eisteddfod is strictly prohibited.
28. APPEALS: An appeal against the Adjudicator’s decision will be accepted only if a rule has been contravened. A protest must be in writing and lodged with the Secretary, together with a fee of $20.00, within half an hour of the adjudication of the item.
29. No unauthorised person/s permitted to enter any performance area.
Backstage area must be vacated immediately upon delivery of props.
30. In accordance with the Rules of Hire, pianos and equipment MUST NOT BE INTERFERED WITH BY ANY UNAUTHORISED PERSON OR PERSONS. Faults must be reported to the office.
31. Food and beverages must not be consumed within the venues at any time.
34. Volunteers are covered under our Insurance Policy.

2. Modern Pianoforte Style is defined as Jazz, Blues, Boogie, Rock and Roll, Latin American, Bebop, Swing, Top 40 and Ragtime.

1. Piano accompaniment to be as written, except in modern ballad and folk song
items where guitar or chordal accompaniment is allowed.
2. A Folk Song has no composer. Arrangements are permitted where folk melody and works are authentic folk. Maximum of 4 Verses
3. Costuming permitted in musical theatre and entertaining choral items. Limited
props preferred.
4. In all Vocal Items the pieces may be sung in the published key or transposed to suit the individual singer.
5. Where piano accompaniment is required, competitors must use the piano provided

Please Note: The ringing of a bell, by the adjudicator, before the completion of an item simply means that the Adjudicator has heard sufficient to form an opinion.

DANCE CONDITIONS

1. Individual Competitors and Groups may appear only once in any one item. A Studio may enter more than one Group in any item provided that the Group consists of totally different competitors. No piece may be repeated within the Eisteddfod by the same competitor/s.
2. Junior Competitors in individual or duet items must purchase a Competitor’s Ticket. Junior Competitors in Group Items will be admitted free for that item only.
3. Please ensure that the item description is read carefully prior to entering.
4. ENTRIES CLOSE: 20th April, 2018
