Admission Requirements for F-1 Students 2020-2021

Follow the instructions below in order to receive a Form I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status”. Use this checklist to ensure your application package is complete and send it in with all your scanned documents into one electronic PDF file to [email protected]. Incomplete admission packages will result in a delay in your admission decision.

Applicants abroad: Once you meet the admission requirements and receive your Form I-20, you will use it to apply for an F-1 visa at a US embassy or consulate abroad. You can find your nearest embassy or consulate by visiting the US Embassy website.

Change of Status Applicants: If you are in the US on a B1/B2 or J1/J2 visa, you must first change your immigration status to F-1 before enrolling in full-time, academic study. If you choose to change your immigration status within the US, ISS strongly recommends the assistance of an experienced immigration attorney. We cannot offer immigration advice.

Before you apply: Do not send official copies of your documents to Columbus State. Only send copies of original documents to [email protected]. Documents submitted to Columbus State will not be returned. Follow the instructions below carefully to ensure a smooth admission process to CSCC.

Admission Requirements for F-1 Students:

Application – Complete the Standard Online Application at cscc.edu/apply

• When completing the application, be sure to indicate that your immigration status in the US is Visa Holder and your visa type is F1, even if you have not yet been granted a visa

English Proficiency – Proof of English proficiency is required for all students—regardless of citizenship—even if English is considered to be your first language. Submit a copy of your official results from one of the exams below:

NOTE: Placement Testing is still required upon arrival to Columbus State Community College

For direct enrollment into a degree program For enrollment into the ESL Language Training Program TOEFL – Score of 79 with 20 in Reading & Writing

IELTS – Score of 6.5 with 6.0 in each band

PTE – Minimum score of 53

ACT – Minimum English score of 18

SAT – Minimum Writing score of 480

Transfer credit – Composition I with a grade “C” or better from an accredited US college or university.

CSCC Placement Test* – Placement into ESL 0190 or higher

Test scores more than 2 years old will not be accepted

TOEFL – Minimum score of 61 with 18 Reading & Writing

IELTS – Minimum score 6.0 with 5.5 in each band

PTE – Minimum score of 45

CSCC Placement Test* – Placement into ESL 0188 or 0189 Only available to take on CSCC campus before admission

*CSCC Placement Test is only offered to students who are in Columbus and can visit our campus, after they have applied

Test scores more than 2 years old will not be accepted

High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and Transcripts – Submit copies of the official transcripts and/or examination results issued by the high school or examination board showing completion of education which is equivalent to a US high school diploma. The diploma or certificate must show graduation date, examination results, transcript or marks earned and official title of diploma/certificate received. CSCC reserves the right to require a professional evaluation of high school credentials if we are unable to verify the validity of your documents.

Evidence of Financial Ability

• Bank-issued financial documents showing at least $25,897 USD or equivalent foreign currency o If adding dependents (spouse or children) refer to F1 admissions website for additional funds

requirement • Fewer than 4 months old and includes account holder’s name, date the document was issued and type of

account (checking, savings, etc.) • Funds must be readily accessible for use to pay tuition and fees. We cannot accept investment accounts,

accounts that fluctuate or long-term or restricted accounts such as 401K and retirement • For business accounts, financial statements must be accompanied by the business owner’s letter of intent to

support on official business letterhead, signed and dated • If account is not in the student’s name, the Financial Sponsor’s Affidavit of Support for F-1 Applicants and

Dependents is required

Sponsor’s Affidavit of Support – Only required if financial statements are not in the student’s name. Signed by the student and sponsor. Separate affidavits must be provided if there is more than one sponsor. Name of sponsor must match those on bank statements. Must have an original signature and must include dates during which support will be provided.

Immigration Documents

TRANSFER STUDENTS: If you wish to transfer your SEVIS record to Columbus State, additional documentation is required. Please contact the advisor below if you wish to receive a new I-20 from Columbus State Community College.

Note: This form must be thoroughly completed, sealed or stamped. Incomplete forms, unsealed nor stamped by the appropriate official and not accompanied by official financial documents will be considered incomplete. A notary seal can be obtained from lawyers, bankers, police officers, and government officials who typically have the authority to make such certifications. Other certified (stamped or sealed) financial documentation forms written in another language with English translation copy will also be accepted in place of this form. U.S. sponsors (U.S. citizens, permanent residents) may complete Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support) which can be downloaded and printed from www.uscis.gov. These forms and all supporting financial documents are valid for 4 months only for the purpose of issuing a Form I-20.
