Administrative Message Newly weds, Yasmina and Shaun married in Dunnville then came to Grandview Lodge to share with us some of their flowers and sweet treats. They visited with some of our residents for advice on a long, happy marriage. Thanks for making us part of your special day! They also shared this photo - taken by Amer Nabulsi. Congratulations to the new married couple! Grandview Lodge is more that just an LTC home, we’re a community hub! We regularly support and partner with community organizations to offer services to our residents as well as others in the community. We support other services such as Senior Support Services and the Day Away Program as well as the Hearing Life Clinic all located at the other end of the building. The Alzheimer’s Society is also on site with us every Friday. Some other groups we’re affiliated with are Community Living, Dunnville Lions/Lioness Club, Dunnville Minor Hockey, the Legion, Laughter Yoga, Mind in Motion, Warm Up Haldimand, Sit to be Fit and more! Our auditorium is a large space, available for reserve, perfect for public events, programs and workshops. Please call Lori Beale at ext. 2221 or Karli Pottruff at ext. 2223 for room bookings. Our most recent partnership is with Community Addiction and Mental Health Services (CAMHS). What’s happenin’ at Creekview..

Outdoor Leisure has been a priority for CV residents throughout the summer months and now into the Fall with fantastic weather. Residents continue to enjoy the CV garden outdoor space to visit with friends, family and co residents. Residents enjoy social roles with meaning and purpose to maintain flowering gardens, keeping the van clean, sweeping and harvesting our bounty. Whether it’s one to one visiting or group planning, this space has defined many savouring outdoor leisure experiences.

Gayle McDougall, Recreationist Programs and Supports

Thank you to everyone that attended and participated in our annual Family Day Picnic on Sunday, September 8th. We had a wonderful turnout – lots of sunshine, entertainment, food and fun. I want to send a special thank you out to Mary and Jim Millard who donated the knitted doll, Joyce Durk’s family who donated the AVON basket, the Beale family who donated the Sweet Retrospect basket and GrandErie Home Hardware for donating the BBQ tools for our fundraising draw. Congratulations to all the winners! Proceeds from this draw will be put towards Resident’s Council. More photos can be found on the bulletin by the Tuck Shop. Our Breakfast Club is starting this month – dates on Oct 3rd and 17th. Come on out and help the management team make breakfast with residents!

Christmas Stocking Program

It’s that time of year again when Santa’s elves start preparing stockings for our residents. We’re asking for your generosity with donations, monetary or small gifts. Some ideas of items are books, puzzles, word search/crossword/adult colouring books, pencil crayons, notepads, calendars and toiletries. Any size donation is greatly appreciated.

We would like stocking donations submitted by December 13th so we can shop for other items needed to fill the stockings.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Amy, Programs Supervisor or Beth Rowland, Volunteer. You can drop items off with Lori at the lobby desk or contact Beth at 905-774-7834 for pick up.

Santa’s elves thank you for your contributions to help put smiles on our resident’s faces during the holidays.

Resident Feature

Ken Mustard, Creekview

Ken was born in Port Colborne. He’ll be turning 92 on October 2nd – Happy Birthday Ken! He attended Port Colborne High School followed by the University of Toronto Medical School. He worked as a General Practitioner in Sudbury for two years. He then completed five more years of surgical training and practice in Hamilton and Buffalo, New York. Ken worked as a General Surgeon in Dunnville and retired after 33 years. He also volunteered as a Team Doctor for the Dunnville Terriers.

Ken married his wife Bev in 1955 – they’ll be celebrating their 65th anniversary next year! Together they had three sons: Kevin, Glen and Rob. Glen lives in Toronto and Rob lives in New Jersey but both visit their father often. Sadly, Kevin past away four years ago and is deeply missed by his family. Ken and Bev were blessed with seven grandchildren.

Kens interests include painting, wood working, collecting artwork, antique furniture restoration and DIY home renovations.

Ken has been with us at Grandview for almost a year and has maintained his loving personality and sense of humour. After all his years of health care service in the Dunnville community, we’re happy to have Ken here with us so we can show him the same compassion and care he gave to his patients.
