of Irrigation & Waterways Department (2016)

Irrigation & Waterways Department is responsible for management and development of surface irrigation from reservoirs / barrages or through canal networking, as well as for upkeep and improvement of around 10,400 km length of river and sea embankments and improvement of drainage channels.

During last four and half years, Irrigation & Waterways Department has

Brought 2,75,500 acre of area under irrigation;

Completed improvement of flood embankments including anti-erosion works for a total length of 2013 km;

Completed re-excavation of rivers and drainage channels for a total length of 601 km and commissioned 3 new big pump houses in Kolkata Metropolitan area;

Completed construction of 117 numbers of RCC road bridges on rivers and drainage channels;

Completed upgradation of inspection paths on canal / river embankment to alternative roads for a length of 300 km;

Commissioned a new jetty to establish 24x7 connectivity between Sagar Island and Kakdwip Main Land.
