Student Commendations Alvin ISD Board of Trustees recognized omas Villarreal of Walt Disney Elementary for winning a $1,000 scholarship from Bonnie Plants for growing an oversized cabbage that placed 1st in the State. In addition, Trustees also honored Alvin ISD Fine Arts K-12 Alvin ISD students who placed in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. e following students were recognized: Best in Show: Ryan Duncan (3rd grade) – Red Duke Elementary; Teacher: Melinda LeBoeuf Jessica Moulton (8th grade) – Nolan Ryan JH; Teacher: Amy Gardziel Anna Chemplayil (10th grade) – Manvel HS; Teacher: Courtney Werden Gold Medal Winners: Amanda Jett (5th grade) – Longfellow Elementary; Teacher: Lynette LeCompte Ami Dongchau (8th grade) – Nolan Ryan JH; Teacher: Amy Gardziel Laura Dennison (11th grade) – Manvel HS; Teacher: Vicky Satterwhite Cloveil Napata (12th grade) – Manvel HS; Teacher Vicky Satterwhite Special Merit Winner: Shaofen Xue (9th grade) – Manvel HS; Teacher: Meghan Anderson

Greeters

Trustees approved the schematic design of the district stadium as presented by Pat Miller, Associate Superintendent of Student Learning Environment

The Alvin ISD Education Foundation donated $10,000 for the development of a reading bus program. Ana Pasarella, Family Engagement Coordinator will lead up the effort in partnership with the Education Foundation.

Board of Trustees approved the calling of the May 7, 2016 Trustee Election for the filling of Position 4 – currently held by Tiffany Wennerstrom, and Position 5 which is currently held by Nicole Tonini.

Trustees Approved the Calling of the May 7 Board of Trustee Election

Board of Trustees approved the 2016-17 Academic Calendar, which can be viewed by visiting www.alvinisd.net/calendar. The District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC), which is comprised of teachers, parents and community leaders, collaborated over several meetings to develop the 2016-17 District Academic Calendar. The committee members went through a process of collecting data and input from parents and district staff and then sharing the information at each meeting. The committee then applied the information gathered to create the proposed calendar.

2016-17 Academic Calendar Approved

Trustees approved the recommended updated elementary school boundaries for Fall 2016 and Fall 2017. The suggested boundaries were recommended by the School Boundary Advisory Committee, which consisted of community members. After numerous meetings, the boundaries presented, which can be found by visiting www.alvinisd.net/sbac, were recommended.

Trustees approved Craig Rhodes as the new principal of Don Jeter Elementary and Dixie Jones as the newest assistant principal at Duke Elementary.
