Missouri S&T/MSU Cooperative Engineering Program:

Disclaimer• The Administration of Cooperative Degree Programs

is not an easy task!• It will take a lot of time and effort.• As much as you think you have it all covered, there

will always be something new to address.• Cooperative degree programs between universities

will continue to grow. It is the politically right thing to do.

Missouri S&T/MSU Cooperative Engineering Program:

• Items in the Memorandum of Understanding were used as a basis for the discussions. – “Degrees in civil and electrical engineering would

be offered by S&T”– “the diplomas will read ‘in cooperation with

Missouri State University’– “MSU will collect tuition and fees from all

students”– “S&T will provide an on-site program director”

Missouri S&T/MSU Cooperative Engineering Program:

• Initial meeting between the administrative offices took place in September 2006. Follow-up meetings occurred in October 2006, January 2007, and March 2007. Processes were finalized in November 2007.

• As students in the cooperative program began taking S&T courses in January 2009, some revision to refine and add detail to the process were made.

Admissions:

• Students first apply and are admitted to MSU in the cooperative program (pre-engineering) when enrolling in MSU courses.

• Prior to taking an S&T course, the student must apply and be admitted to S&T.

• The student is admitted to S&T as a transfer student and tracked in a special student group.

Financial Aid:

• For purposes of financial aid, the student’s “home institution” throughout the program will remain at MSU.

• When students are enrolled in S&T courses, MSU

enters a “placeholder” course for the equivalent hours of the S&T course so that the students can be considered for financial aid.

Billing and Fees:

• The charges will be MSU rates for MSU courses and S&T rates for S&T courses. The MOU also states that MSU will collect all fees from the student.

• S&T sends a bill to the student’s S&T e-mail address to inform them of the fees that have been assessed and that they are being billed to a third party sponsor which is MSU. The bill has a statement about the S&T/MSU cooperative program and will specify that the student owes $0 dollars.
