Ncodes on everything. These odd-looking, black-and-white, pixellated designs were
originally used by the automotive industry, but today they are most often found in magazines, newspapers and ads.
Admags.es use these codes all the time as they offer an efficient way to create links to websites - you just scan on your phone and the mini mobile site appears. From here you can tap to call, tap to email, get directed to the business - plus much more. Here are some tips on how to use a QR app to access the businesses on direct.admags.es
First, you need a QR-code app and a smartphone or tablet equipped with a camera. iPhone users should check out "RedLaser". Android fans can try either "RedLaser" or "QR Droid", and BlackBerry users will like “QR Code Scanner Pro2. All of these apps are free to download, and each one should handle any standard QR code just fine.
When you launch your app of choice, you'll see that your phone's camera is activated, with an on-screen framing guide. Line up the camera on your device with the QR code you want to scan, and hold the device steady until the app can read the code in front of it.
For the best results, aim your device squarely at the code, and not at an angle. Try to minimize any glare from stray light sources, and scan the code in an evenly lit environment. If the code is in direct sunlight, you may need to cover it with your hand for the app to read it properly.
When the app has recognised the QR code, it will beep and display the info code contains, or launch your web browser to take you through to the designated URL.

Cabo Roig...Cabo Roig is very well situated for holidays being

Captain & Cala Caleta. Cala Captain is the largest

green for the annual St Patrick´s day Parade. The
parade starts at 15.00 and will include music,
bands, vintage cars, activities for children, oats
and fireworks. This is very popular every year so go
along and soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy the
party.

climate; but for owners renting out air-conditioned property, the downside can be very expensive. After all, the renters are usually on holiday and the last thing on their minds is the electricity bill.

Upgrading an Electricity supply...
Aconsequence of having a Smart Meter fitted is that you may experience power cuts when using powerful electrical
appliances. This is because you are not contracted for a sufficient amount of power.
Iberdrola are currently replacing all the traditional electricity meters with Smart Meters. The new meters are fitted with a kill switch (ICP) to limit the consumer from using more electricity than what they are contracted for. In the past, many consumers have by-passed their limiter, but with the introduction of Smart Meters that is no longer possible.
In order for Iberdrola to authorise an upgrade to an existing electricity supply, they will require a new boletin.
A boletin is an electrical installation certificate that stipulates the maximum permissible power capacity and ensures the quality and condition of the installation. Every installation connected to Iberdrola's distribution network has one.
The initial step is to arrange a survey by an Electrician to assess the condition of the electrical installation. This involves an inspection to check if it complies with the current Spanish electrical regulations. A report is produced with details of any improvement work, if any, that is required. Once the work has been completed a new boletin can be issued.
For properties built since 2002 a boletin can usually be issued without the need for any improvement work. In the case of older properties some improvement work will be required. The extent of the improvement work will depend on the age of the installation.
The typical upgrade is an increase of the contracted power supply from 3.3 kW to 5.75
kW. The contracted power supply is stated on the electricity contract and the electricity bill next to “Potencia Contratada” in kilowatts (kW).
5.75 kW is normally sufficient for a 2-3 bedroom property with the general array of electrical appliances.
Vi l las fit ted with swimming pool heat exchangers, large air conditioning systems, or other heavy electrical loaded equipment may require additional power.
Some properties may require a 3-phase power supply, but this is only essential if there is 3-phase equipment to run. Otherwise it is more cost effective to have a single-phase power supply.
Spanish properties built before 2002 were generally connected with a 3.3 kW contracted power supply as standard building practice. Very old properties, especially rural dwellings, were often only connected with only 2.2 kW, or less. These are normally the properties that require to be upgraded.

ituated on a hillside overlooking the town and
Sdistant mountains, the barrio of abandoned cave houses was restored as a kind of living
museum by the town some 20 years ago with the caves being given to various artists to use as workshops.
Over the recent years, and not helped by the recession, many of the artists have not been using them as much as they should and their monthly markets and workshops stopped about 7 years ago!
However, 2 years ago, they decided that things needed changing, and Martin the artist in Rojales was asked if he could help restart the markets.
So a "Big Art" event was organised in March 2012 when 60 artists and 1000 visitors came together, and now the monthly arts & crafts market is a reality with artists & artisans coming from miles to exhibit their work.
The markets run from 11 am to 3 pm on the first Sunday of each month - except for July, August & September when they are held in the evening.
And besides the artwork, the day includes traditional paella, live music & dancing, whilst the quirky little bar is a great place to sit and see the view.
Plans for the future include bringing visitors from outside the area by coach & more practical workshops for them to get involved with too.
The dates of the next markets are: April 6th and May 4th - and listen out for more news about an arts festival that will be happening around the May market date.

San Miguel de SalinasThe church in , set in the Plaza de La San Miguel
Libertad, was built in 1723 and is dedicated to St
Michael the Archangel. This is where the name San
Miguel de Salinas derives from, meaning St Michael
of the salt lakes.
San Miguel still has an occupied cave house
neighbourhood, or 'Barrio Troglodyte', which is
possible to wander around. To get an idea of what
one of these cave houses looks like inside visit the
“Las Cuevas” restaurant, which has recently been
restored but still mixes tradition with sophistication.
The restaurant is located in Neighbourhood May 1,
Number 13.
In March and April there are women's workshops
and events taking place all around San Miguel .
20 – 27 March at the Town Hall of San Miguel de
Salinas is an exhibition of artworks by women
painters around the area.

If you've not yet taken a trip Altea then you're in for a treat...
At just over an hour and a half from the Orhiuela Costa it's easily
accessible for a day trip. You may want to avoid the tolls and do
the whole journey on the N332, whilst directly on the AP7 is slightly
quicker at roughly an hour and 20 mins. The N332 drive is a pretty
one and gives you a beautiful view of the resorts and enchanting
vistas of the coast.
Altea is just past Benidorm but is the complete opposite of the
bustling resort. It typifies a traditional Spanish village, the old town
is very pretty with winding cobbled streets and white washed
buildings, postcard perfect! Whilst walking around the streets
you can see picturesque views of the bay. Souvenirs are plentiful
with lots of little shops selling interesting nic naks and handmade
pieces. Be sure to look in the handmade candle shop, it makes
some beautiful and intricate candles. In the old town square you
will find the church of La Mare de Déu del Consol which has
attractive blue and white tiled domes. Here you will find
restaurants and bars to sit and soak in the atmosphere. If you
wander around the cobbled streets you will find many quaint little
restaurants to have a spot of lunch. It is not possible to park near
the square but there are several secure parking areas around the
town. If you head down to the sea you will find a promenade to
walk along as well as many more bars and restaurants looking out
over the beach.
Continuing along the N332 you arrive at Calp. Calp (formerly
Calpe) has many beautiful beaches and coves. The main Levante
beach is around 1 km long, sandy and with crystal blue waters.
The promenade is packed with bars and restaurants - sure to
keep everyone happy. At the end of the beach you will notice the
massive rock protruding from the sea, known as the “Peñón de
Ifach”, 332m high and a kilometre long. The rock formation was
created by a landside from the nearby 'Sierra de Olta' and has
formed an interesting and unique focal point to the beach.
Altea & Calp definitely offer a lovely day out but with so much to
see and do in the area, you can easily make it a beautiful
weekend...

100g sultanas
3 tbsp Disaronno liqueur, plus extra to serve
(optional)
50g butter, plus extra for greasing
6 digestive biscuits, crushed to crumbs
8 amaretti biscuits, crushed to crumbs
2 x 300g packs full-fat cream cheese (we
used Philadelphia)
3 eggs
170g pot soured cream
3 tbsp self-raising our
1 tsp vanilla extract
175g golden caster sugar
icing sugar, to serve
roughly broken amaretti biscuits, to serve
1) Tip the sultanas into a bowl, add the Disaronno and set aside to soak for 1 hr. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and lightly grease a 23cm loose-bottomed round cake tin. Melt the butter in a pan over a gentle heat and stir in the biscuit crumbs. Mix well, tip into the base of the tin and push down to compress it. Bake for 5 mins, then remove from the oven and allow to cool.2) Meanwhile, beat the cheese with the eggs, soured cream, our, vanilla and caster sugar – preferably with an electric whisk so it is nice and smooth. Stir in the sultanas (and any Disaronno left in the bowl), then pour onto the base. Bake for 30 mins until set but still with a slight wobble in the centre. Cool in the tin. Can be made 2 days ahead and chilled.3) To serve, carefully turn out, dust with icing sugar and top with some broken amaretti biscuits.

Los MontesinosFor centuries was an agricultural Los Montesinos
town. However tourism & expat emigration have
dramatically changed the area. Its history can be
traced back to Roman times evidenced by the
Roman road “Via Augusta”. Once an extremely
important road it is now relatively unknown.
After recent restoration , the Ermita de la Marquesa
has now been classed as a site of culture interest.
The Ermita is rectangular in shape, has a gable roof
and a bell topped chapel.

19th March - St Joseph’s DaythThe 19 of March is St Joseph´s day, also known
as “Fallas de San Jose”and is celebrated as the
Spanish Father´s day or “Dia del Padre”.
There are special church services held in honour
of St Joseph´s life. Many people will visit their
fathers on this day. (St Joseph is the spouse of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, the earthly step-father of
Jesus.)
th th13 to the 20 of April - Holy week ́ Semana Santa´
Spain is renowned for its Semana Santa traditions
and most villages and towns will be celebrating
with processions, fiestas, fireworks and events
going on throughout the week.
You will notice that the processions feature people
wearing the Nazareno robe (see our front cover)
This consists of a tunic, a cloak and a “capriote”, a
conical shaped hood which conceals the face of
the wearer. The colours of these robes vary
depending on the procession. In the medieval
period these robes and hoods were used by
penitents who were able to demonstrate without
revealing their identity. In modern times the sight
of these robes may cause dismay due to their
being appropriated & worn by racist groups - so
it’s good to know their true meaning is the exact
opposite - piety & humility...
Those involved in the Easter processions are from
Christian brotherhoods associations whose
origins date back to the middle ages. They will
carry the sculptures or oats that show different
scenes from the gospels related to the passion of
Christ throughout the processions.

As a public holiday this day commemorates the
last supper of Christ & there will be solemn
processions throughout towns and villages.
th18 April is also a public holiday, as this day marks
Christ’s crucifixion & death. Special church
services will be held and processions will be
underway in the evening
th20 April - Easter Sunday
Marks the resurrection of Christ. On this day the
Godfather of a child will present them with a cake
known as ´La Mona´, a pan shape adorned with
characters. Celebrations will be happening but
will be less solemn than those during the week.
During the Easter period in Spain, people will be
eating ‘Torrijas’, thick slices of bread soaked in
milk and beaten egg, fried in olive oil and served
with honey or sugar. Also popular is ‘Un Pestino’,
a plain and simple fritter fried in olive oil and again
sprinkled with honey or sugar.
