offering holistic approach when caring fro children and the sensitized members are looking forward to a level II training in the coming year.

A lot of thought process and planning have gone in to reach the postgraduate students, the budding pillars of child health providers of the country. The weekly live webcast of the postgraduate case clinics are appreciated not only by PG students but also have been useful for the pediatricians, both within and outside the country. Web activities of the IAP have been increasing and is the mantra to reach many unreached in a short period of time and is a true WEBVOLUTION begun in the year 2014

All this has been possible because of the guidance from my senior predecessors and constant support from the IAP Hon General Secretary Dr. Pravin Mehata ably assisted by the office staff.

The ties with the health ministry have been further strengthened and IAP has now been involved in many important child health related policy meetings by the ministry. Now the onus is on us to deliver as promised in the public private partnership.

IndiaNewbornActionPlan(INAP)andIndiaPlanforPreventionof PneumoniaandDiarrhea(IAPPD)are the focus of priorities for the government and if supported well by the IAP will help achieve the target of UFMR of 25 and single digit NMR by 2035.

Let me put on records my sincere gratitude to all my friends and well wishers and also the critics without whose constant support, the tenure wouldn’t have been the worth it was. I wish each one of you a happy new year and years of health and happiness ahead.

Finally friends IAP is not the President or office bearers but it is all of us and unless we continue to work as a team without loosing our focus, we will not be successful in our mission of academics and advocacy.

Yours truly,

VijayYewale IAP President 2014

From the desk of

DearIAPians,

It is said that time flies!

It seems it was only yesterday that I addressed you as the incoming President and it’s already time to say good-bye and lay the office.

The year has been full of activities both on academic as well as administrative fronts and the pleasure of having worked for the academy cannot be expressed in words. Despite the ups and downs that the 2014 witnessed, IAP walked the right path to reach the goal.

Various activities under the IAP Action Plan 2014 were rolled out, the flagship activity being the programs to curb the growing Antimicrobial Resistance. The workshops on RationalAntibioticPractice(RAP) for pediatricians and the family practitioners have been well received and will be continued to have the desired impact. The ongoing process of formulating guidelines on use of antibiotics in pediatrics and infection control in nursing homes and small hospitals as a part of the IAPICMRCall toAction to tackleAMR will pave the way to further prevent AMR. Workshops on Problem Solving in Pediatric infectious Diseases (PSPID)and Respiratory Tract Infection Group Education (RTIGEM-ReTrain)will rationalize the approach to infectious diseases. The first of its kind national congress on Antimicrobials, ANTIMICROBIOCON2014 will see a repeat In the year 2015 in a different form and city.

Increasing prevalence of MDR TB is worrisome and TBManagement training workshops planned during 2015 is expected to bring in the uniformity in TB management and hopefully will curtail the menace of growing MDR Tuberculosis

Comprehensive development of children is the need of the hour and nutrition in health has been a neglected area. NutritioninOfficePractice workshops proved to be successful in sensitizing practitioners on quick assessment of nutrition and the PromotingEmotionalIntelligenceinChildren(PEICH) program willinculcate the habit of

Dr. Vijay N. Yewale President IAP 2014

IAP Annual Report, 2014 4

DearFellowAcademicians,

Wish you all a very happy and

prosperous new year 2015.

IAP is bringing out its Annual Report

for the year 2014 and it is time to

reflect what we have achieved.

I congratulate Dr. Vijay Yewale, our President – 2014

for his positive attitude, constant encouragement and

a very active and fruitful year The Honorary Secretary

General Dr. Pravin Mehta, has done a fantastic job this

year. I congratulate him. The academic feast with the

launch of various modules on rational antibiotic therapy,

rational pediatric practices and a web revolution with

telecast of educative CMEs was very well appreciated by

pediatricians and students especially in the most rural

corners of the country.

I thank all IAPians for entrusting me the highest post

of President in the Academy and creating an enabling

environment. It is simply your love, affection and support

which helped me reach this post. I would be taking over

as the President from a very experienced and resourceful

person. I humbly request you all to stand by me to carry

forward the good work done by my predecessors .

I welcome the newly elected Executive Board Members

and look forward to the year 2015 to be working together

I appreciate the hard work put in by our office staff

under the guidance of Office Superintendant Mr. Joseph

Gonsalves.

Our Academy has grown by leaps and bounds in last few

years IAP’s membership is touching 23,000, a figure to

be proud of. As a large and effective organization, IAP

is getting the attention of the Government of India and

various International NGOs for partnership in devising

policies for child health in India. However, we can do

much more by way of advocacy for children, and by way

of counseling the government on various child health

programs in the country. The Government of India has

committed to bring down the IMR to 27 by 2017 and

NMR to single digit by 2030. Let us all contribute and

make this initiative a reality .

Friends, I will need your whole hearted cooperation and

support during my tenure as President 2015.

I humbly request all of you to come and enjoy the Delhi

hospitality and contribute to the success of Pedicon 2015.

JaiHind!JaiIAP!

Dr. S. S. Kamath IAP President 2015

From the desk of

IAP Annual Report, 20145

EsteemedIapians,

This is my last communication to you

as IAP OB. As I am approaching the

conclusive tip of the final lap of my

eventful golden journey, there are a few

things that I wish to share with all of you. For all medals

tagged in IAP’s crest in golden jubilee year, I am more

than grateful for all your support and love for making

my dream true and for making my golden jubilee term

memorable in such a stupendous way.

This truly proved to be a golden year for our organization.

It started out as grandly as was dreamed with his

Excellency, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam installing us, Dr.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia providing us a the vision to

move forth & initiating the tenure, & with our very own

Padma Shree, Padma Vibhushan Dr. M. K. Bhan cheering

us with his golden jubilee oration.

But today, I sleep a happy man, because dear friends,

we have actually been able to accomplish pretty much

everything we had thought of. This has all been possible

because of your undying support and unwavering

commitment.

Let’s begin with my dream child, “Mission Uday”— our

whole hearted effort to decrease under five mortality.

For the very first time in IAP and for IAP, faculty from

top medical schools of India, the likes of – AIIMS,

KALAVATI SARAN AND UCMS, and a few other

legendary figures, came together and the module for this

project was designed. This movement of ours has been

admired by the Indian government, acclaimed globally

by, WHO, UNICEF etc. It is doing tremendously and I

hope it only goes uphill. I am extremely happy that the

upcoming presidents (Dr. Vijay Yewale, Dr SS Kamath

and Dr Pramod Jog) also feels the same way about the

cause and has the grit to lead on and give our project an

even bigger dimension. I would also like to update all of

you about ID SURV – an online surveillance program

for infectious diseases and adverse reactions following

immunization (AEFI), here we can register the cases that

we see, generate our own data, which will keep us at pace

with all the changing clinical trends, about the status of

various diseases in various regions and would help us

strategies in order to prevent and eradicate them. I request

all of you to actively participate in this; its success is very

much dependent on your awareness and participation.

Our other project, “Mission Kishore Uday”, won us

accolades at the SAARC summit, where our nation was

recognized as the only one in south Asia which truly has

understanding of potential of the issue and invested itself

accordingly into it. Adolescent health has always been

close to my heart, in my opinion it is that single special

arrow that can be aimed for achieving multiple targets

like reducing inter generational poverty, increasing the

literacy rate and improving the poor indices of under five

mortality, infant mortality, low birth weight etc.

NRP, continued like a rock, came along to be recognized

as the world’s best and largest child survival project.this

has made us the rightful leaders of neonatal health in

South East Asia, as we have been able to, and quite visibly

so, \upgrade the quality of the services available and we

have started receiving invitations for conducting NRPs

in neighboring countries as well.

ACPP - acute care for practicing pediatricians, another

ambitious project, started with the intent of helping

practitioners working in level two nursing homes, in order

to empower them to successfully provide acute care in

emergencies despite limited resource settings. This was

a very thoughtful and progressive approach and was

universally appreciated. Other programs like IAPBLS and

IAPGEM have also shown equally encouraging results.

We have also published a Child Health Record with the

hope that all of you will like it and find it useful. If you

Dr. C. P. Bansal President IAP 2013

From the desk of

IAP Annual Report, 2014 6

want any more copies of it, they would be promptly

provided.

The ATM module which was being delayed for the past

few years, was revised and it finally did reach you. The

CDMP module has also been revised by the best in the

field.

Our news bulletin Child India is another phenomenon

in its own, bejeweled with practical tips, clinical tips that

would come in handy for any pediatrician, insightful

articles, latest guidelines and numerous protocols.

Dear IAPians, you must avail facilities of our very own

IAP website as well. It’s amazingly and very interactively

done up. You will surely enjoy it and feel proud of it.

ICP - it’s a cell for quality control of the various

fellowships offered by the many chapters of IAP. It’s one

project that I could not work on as much as I had wished.

I deeply regret it. However I will continue to support it

and work for it and hope that it bears fruit.

IAP-COI went through a revolutionary transformation,

is now called ACVIP. The members were democratically

selected as per their merit in the required fields.they

were made to sign a strict code of conduct including

a conflict of interests as per which they can neither be

on the advisory board of any vaccine company or the

likes of it, nor can they accept any sort of gifts or favors

from them. They have compiled an IAP immunization

guidebook, which is very informative and unbiased and I

am extremely proud of it. It’s also for the first time that

such a document has been published without any sort of

financial help or assistance by any vaccine company, its

entirely been covered by the internal resources of IAP. It

would soon reach all of you and I hope it fills you with the

same sense of oneness and empowerment as it filled me.

If I am asked to choose the most electrifying, the

most unforgettable, the most special and path breaking

moment of my tenure, I would undoubtedly say that it

was the one when our Postal Stamp was released by Mr.

Kapil Sibbal Ji. He has assured us that the communication

ministry will work in close collaboration with IAP and

help us reach out in a more effective and widespread way.

Friends I would like to point out how our Golden

Jubilee CME was unique in so many ways-we were

enlightened by some of our best past president orators

and immunization experts, it was live telecasted all over

India, and incredibly from our very own website! IAP

FLAG was also released on this day by honorable shri

Kapil Sibbal Ji.

It was a Golden Jubilee year of Indian Pediatrics also

– the IP Golden Jubilee Issue contained a plethora of

information making it very interesting with history of

IAP and IP - this is an extremely symbolic milestone for

all of us. I truly believe the efforts of Prof. Piyush Gupta

deserve a special mention here.

There were some very progressive changes that took place

at all levels. For instance, installation of CCTV cameras

and biometry machines in all the IAP offices was certainly

a big step. It has lifted our dedicated & transparent

working for our organization a few notches higher.

I would like to thank Dr. Sailesh Gupta for his

constructive criticism, suggestions, support and

commitment throughout the tenure. Despite our many

arguments and heated discussions, we more often than

not reached a common consensus and worked to the

best of our capabilities. We did make an awesome team.

This year has been unforgettable and it’s been so,

mostly because of my amazing, forever strengthening

and supportive executive board. I am truly happy

and truly indebted. Even though, related to the IAP

elections, we came across many misconceptions and

misunderstandings, court cases came into the picture,

but I always had my executive board to fall back on. We

were united and that was the beauty of it.

This is the point where I sign off, I wish to thank few

members from depth of my heart – Dr Naveen Thacker

who stood like a rock for my support and arranged

finances for almost all of my dream projects for IAP,

Dr panna Choudhury Sir who guided me at many steps

and his advices were really very fruitful for IAP. Dr

IAP Annual Report, 20147

Vipin Vashishtha who put all his sincere efforts to make

my dream of bringing ACVIP out of the influence

of vaccine manufacturers, Dr Vineet Saxena certainly

deserves a special mention. The entire academic backup

was beautifully handled by Prof Piyush Gupta, he was like

a friend philosopher and guide to me. Dr Ajay Gambhir

always helped me and supported me at every quarter

and rendered the services of IMA House always. Sincere

efforts of my drear Dr Dinesh Laroia in organizing many

meets in Delhi could never be undermined.

Dr Ashok Rai, Dr Dhiren Gupta, Dr Vikas Goel, Dr

Amit Shah, Dr JS Tuteja, Dr Tarun Patni, Dr Manoj

Rathi, Dr Rajiv Mohte, Dr RK Gupta, Dr Dinesh Laroia,

Dr Suresh Sharma, Dr Samir Dalwai, Dr Satish Pandya,

Dr VP Goswami, Dr Harish Pemde, Dr Ashok Banga,

Dr Ajay Gaur, Dr Suhas Dhonde, Dr Dinesh Tomar, Dr

Rakesh Bharadwaj, Dr SC Singhal, Dr Rajinder Gulati,

Dr AS Chawla, Dr Sanjay Niranjan, Dr MP Jain and Dr

Devesh Agrawal (in the first half of 2013) Sunil Agrawal

and many more (when I write these many more names

are coming to my pen but I am restricting myself with

due apologies to them. Believe me, their support and,

love and affection was in no way less than those whose

names have been mentioned) –– all were my pillars of

strength and worked hard for my dream for IAP. All the

members of Gwalior IAP, MP IAP, Ludhiana IAP and

Haryana IAP showed unconditional love and affection.

I am fortunate and lucky enough to have love and untiring

support and guidance from many seniors – foremost

respected Dr Prof MK Bhan, Prof KK Kaul, Prof NR

Bhandari, Prof MKC Nair, Prof AG Shingwekar, Prof

RK Taluja, Prof KM Belapurkar, Prof VK Paul, Prof

SS Kabra, Prof S Aneja, Prof Varinder Singh, Prof KC

Agrawal, Prof SK Mittal, Peof Sitaraman, Dr LN taneja,

Prof Arvind Saili, Dr PD Garg, Dr TS Jain, Dr Ashok

Kapse, Dr TP Jayaraman, Dr Pishareddy, and many more

esteemed faculty and worshipable persons of academia,

I bow in front of the academia of IAP to keep blessing

me always till I breathe last.

I express sincere regards and gratitude to Dr Vijay Yewale

and Dr Pravin Mehta, the incoming Presidents Dr SS

Kamath and Dr Pramod Jog.

During my tenure as IAP President I pushed my limits,

I rejoiced, I struggled, I broke down and put myself

together too. I found allies, I lost them too, I went

through severe illness, stood the test of endurance, of

friendship, passed some, failed some, it was a year of

change, of success, of hardships, and of true strength.

I hope that I faired out well, I did the best I could and

the most that I could.

In the end, I leave it on you, my fellow IAPian, my

friend, I leave it on you to judge, how was it ? how was

I? however, I extend my heartfelt unconditional apologies

to all those friends who feel hurt and I failed to live up

to their expectations. I will continue to work for IAP as

its dedicated member.

I wish you well. I wish you a merry Christmas and a

happy new year.

I wish IAP to become stronger and stronger – mutual

love and trust may become deeper and deeper.

Long Live IAP.

IAP Annual Report, 2014 8

RespectedIAPians,

It has been The Privilege of Life

Time to Serve The National IAP

with Pleasure and Pressure from

various quarters to live up to their

Expectations!

We could Perform under tremendous Turbulent Phase

which IAP has never experienced in its 52 Years of

Existence. Credit goes to the Captain of Near Looking

alike Titanic, Dr. Vijay Yewale, President of National

IAP with able Support by Immediate Past President

Dr.C.P.Bansal, Fellow Office Bearers and Experienced

and Young Executive Board Members of 2014. He has

Steered to the Shore with Academics Intact.

Rolling out “Rational Antibiotics Practice” when Drug

Abuse and Drug Resistance is threatening the Very

Existence of Mankind, “Emotional Intelligence” while

the Parent and Society at Large is ignoring very small

and easily manageable issues at Home in to untreatable

and irreversible state, Revisiting “Nutrition” for the

Practising Pediatricians to make them Conscious of

Forgotten Basic Problem of the Nation which is still

plaguing Poverty stricken Child of Hindustan have

been our Strength to Reckon !

Respiratory Infections Gradually Assuming More

Morbidity than any other illness has Prompted Dr.

Vijay Yewale to “ReTrain” IAPians on “RTI GEMS”

with Headquarters at Hyderabad Live Web casting in

more than 60 centers across the Nation was Nothing

short of Herculian Task.

We have done justice to the future IAPians of the

Largest Democratic Nation on Planet Earth i.e. Post

Graduates by Live Web casting of PG clinics and

Organizing Thesis Writing Work Shop for the Post

Graduates at Hyderabad.

Prescribing Anti Microbials should not be a farce and

to underline this concept has Prompted us to Organise

“ANTIMICROBIOCON” at Ahmedabad with Galaxy

of Gujarat IAPians coming forward to Host the Event.

And to penetrate in to the Grass Roots of the Nation,

“ANTIBIOTICS ABUSE AWARENESS” Week

has gone in to the Medical Community and Public

in General with same Objective is Hallmark of the

Concept and involvement of IMA has brought us the

required mileage.

IAP Annual Report, 201411

DearfellowIAPmembers,

Greetings from Central IAP.

I have great pleasure in presenting:

1) Audited accounts for the year ending on 31st

March 2014,

2) Budget for the year 1st April 2015 to 31st March

2016.

As, many of you must be aware, that from the time of

Gurgaon Pedicon most of the central IAP share of

profit comes to central IAP in the form of donation

by a member which directly goes to the corpus of the

central IAP. Since this is not taken as an income, it

has become difficult to match the central IAP income

and expenditure account. So at time the budget may

show marginal surplus/deficit as compared to previous

budgets.

Our expenditure per year is approximately 3.54 crores.

Our fixed income from subscriptions, interest on

investments is approximately 2 crores. That means

every year we are dependent on variable income of

one crore which comes from pedicon, presidential

action plan administrative fees and contributions from

state, chapter and city branches. Major chunk of this

variable income is from Pedicon. This means that in

unforeseen circumstances of Pedicon not doing well

financially, it will be difficult to match income with

rising expenditure. I wish that we have a long term

vision to increase the corpus year after year so that one

day a stage is reached when we are not dependent on
