BIOME OLÉOACTIF ® ADDITIONAL TEST REINFORCEMENT OF SKIN BARRIER FUNCTION AT 0.5% DOSE In healthy skin, epidermis (especially stratum corneum) is a very well-organized structure that acts as a physical barrier against pathogens and dehydration. Under extrinsic and intrinsic factors, the cutaneous barrier function can be disrupted leading to imbalances of the [skin-microbiome] ecosystem. A randomized double-blind study is carried out to evaluate the improvement of the skin barrier function after chemical impairment then repeated application of BIOME Oléoactif ® for 14 days. The cutaneous barrier integrity is clinically studied by measuring the Trans-Epidermal Water Loss: the lower the TEWL value, the stronger the skin barrier function. BIOME Oléoactif ® is the first ingredient obtained by capturing rare lipids from a wild extremophilic microorganism, then offering them to the skin and its microbiota. Among these lipids, iso C15 fatty acid, specific to bacteria [1] , is utilized in cosmetics and personal care for the first time. At the crossroads of bacterial and vegetable worlds, BIOME Oléoactif ® both reinforces the integrity of the epidermal barrier and preserves the microbiota of healthy skin to prevent cutaneous discomfort and disease. Obtained through patented Oléo-éco-extraction, this active is a COSMOS-certified natural beauty enhancer complex, totally safe with proven efficacy at low dose. After 2 days, 7 days and 14 days of twice-daily application, BIOME Oléoactif®:

• Significantly decreases TEWL by in average -19% (up to -54%), -40% (up to -70%) and -63% (up to -80%) respectively.

• Is respectively up to +119%, +50% and +23% more effective in decreasing water loss than placebo.

• Respectively improves skin barrier function for 65%, 85% and 100% of the volunteers.

BIOME Oléoactif® restores and strengthens skin’s barrier integrity.

In these conditions, skin dehydration is limited. Skin colonization by pathogens is prevented. Skin is healthy.

This clinical test confirms the effect of BIOME Oléoactif® on the reinforcement of the cutaneous barrier function proven on reconstructed human epidermis (in vitro test).

The significant improvement of TEWL value after only 2 days of application evidences the contribution of BIOME Oléoactif® in balancing the [skin-microbiome] ecosystem.
