Welcome ADCC Members!

I am delighted to welcome you to The ADCC’S second

Annual Meeting and Conference! We are excited to

present this opportunity for you and your staff mem-

bers to learn and grow—both personally and profes-

sionally, by networking with fellow dance competition

and convention professionals, vendor affiliates and

business partners.

The ADCC’s mission is to unite our membership to

promote quality, integrity and opportunity within the

dance competition and convention industry. We hope

that you will take advantage of opportunities at this

Annual Meeting to expand your knowledge and re-

sources and to celebrate our successes together!

We now have 23 active Member Competitions,

3 Vendor Affiliates, 3 Business Partners, 18 Studio

Affiliate members and 378 Studio of Excellence win-

ners, representing the dance competition industry.

I look forward to serving as President throughout the

coming year, and working with our dedicated board

members who give generously of their time and

resources to The ADCC. Please reach out to me

during the meeting and let me know what you’d like

to see The ADCC do in the next year, or get involved

on a committee!

Welcome to the 2016 ADCC Annual Meeting!

Over the past year, the ADCC Annual Meeting Com-

mittee and staff have worked hard to put together

this exciting industry-wide event that offers you

opportunities to learn about new developments in HR,

build a culture that supports your brand, and make

innovation an everyday part of your company’s work.

Based on feedback from last year, we’ve also added in

several Roundtable Discussion Sessions, Info Sessions

from our Vendor Affiliates and Business Partners and

multiple chances to network and socialize with each

other.

Don’t miss the Annual Business Meeting on Thurs-

day, where we will unveil a new exciting initiative that

we will undertake over the next two years. And on

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer at Nationals and are ready for the 2017 Season!

At The ADCC, we are getting ready to host our second Annual Meeting of the membership at the JW Marriott in Las Vegas. We all look forward to three days when we can come together as dance competition owners to network with each other, learn from professionals in the field and celebrate our industry’s stars that help make our competitions so successful.

August has been a busy month for The ADCC!

We received 49 college dance scholarship applica-tions, welcomed a new Vendor Affiliate—Dance Recital Ticketing and two new competition members: The Countdown National Dance Competiion and Diva Dance Competition.

We also recognized 273 regional and 5 national Studio of Excellence winners, and received numerous nomi-nations for our Industry Excellence Awards.

Next month we launch our new website with a search-able database of competitions. We hope these new resources help you in planning your competition year.It’s so exciting to see The ADCC growing and we thank you for being part of our competition family!

A nationally renowned ballet dancer, choreographer

and dance teacher, Jo Rowan is Professor of Dance and

Chairman of the Dance Department at the Ann Lacy

School of American Dance and Entertainment, Okla-

homa City University.

She has had a long and distinguished career, appearing

in ballets, musicals, and on television, and touring the

world with The American Spirit Dance Company, of

which she is founder and director.

Jo Rowan is a frequent lecturer on the history of ballet

and American dance and has written and narrated

“American Dance Styles” and “Seventy Years of Amer-

ican Dance” for television. She has served as spokes-

person for National Dance Week Education, and was

honored by Dance Teacher magazine as National

Teacher of the Year in Higher Education, among many

other honors and awards.

In choosing this year’s Lifetime Achievement honoree,

The ADCC Board recognizes Jo Rowan’s vast experi-

ence, her commitment to excellence, and her lasting

influence on the field of dance.

CHRISTOPHER PHI, Handbalancer

Christopher was born in California and has been doing gymnastics and

theater since the age of 10. He won various national titles in the sport of

tumbling, and after high school he began studying musical theater at

Notre Dame de Namur University. In 2005 he joined the cast of “Le Reve”

at the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas. After performing there for 5 years he left

to perform his handstand number at various festivals and events around

the world. He has appeared in various commercials and TV series. In 2013

he began working in Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystere” as the Yellow Bird charac-

ter, where he currently performs.

JOHANNA SAPAKIE, Acro Pole

Johanna has performed, choreographed and taught all over the world and

has worked with Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Miley Cyrus,

just to name a few. She has had the pleasure of working closely with

directors Debbie Allen, Vincent Paterson and Jamie King, among others,

and has performed her dance and acrobatics for the first family, the

Obamas. She has been a part of two different Cirque Du Soleil shows as a

dancer and an acrobat, Viva Elvis and Michael Jackson ONE. She can

currently be seen performing for ONE every night at Mandalay Bay Casino

in Las Vegas.

DAVID LOCKE, Cyr Wheel

David has performed in Cirque Du Soleil shows Viva Elvis, KA, and most

recently was a part of the cast of the touring CDS show Kurios. As a Cyr

wheel specialist, David brings a fast-paced routine full of dynamic tricks

and musicality.
