Overview
Traditional Pilates focuses greatly on postural awareness and how we can protect and support our deep core muscle in our everyday lives. The importance of the traditional elements of Pilates is easy to achieve and adapt through simple and controlled exercises and overall self-awareness. Traditional Pilates upholds the integrity of the teachings in accordance with the 6 main principles: Concentration, Centering, Control, Breathing, Precision and Flow. The following key points will be demonstrated in this session:
What is our deep core muscle? Why is it so important to protect? Why is breathing effectively so vital especially during stressful times? What factors contribute to leading a healthier lifestyle? How can we apply Traditional Pilates to our everyday lives?
What to bring to the 1-hr session: Please bring a water bottle, towel and a yoga mat. Preferably wear exercise attire. Light, gentle exercises will be demonstrated. All ages are welcome to participate. Please consult your doctor if you are unsure whether you are able to participate or not.

Tension is your worst enemy
Recognise and release tension
Remember the significance of mental rest
About the presenter
Pauline McKinnon is a psychotherapist specializing in Stillness
Meditation Therapy (SMT®) and Director of the Stillness Meditation
Therapy Centre in Melbourne. In early married life and following a
series of stressful events, Pauline developed severe acute anxiety and
agoraphobia. Conventional therapies were unsuccessful in bringing
healing and after an 8 year struggle she finally discovered lasting relief
in ‘stillness’ as originated by Dr Ainslie Meares.
With a desire to help others suffering similarly, Pauline published her story (In Stillness Conquer
Fear) and led the way in raising awareness of anxiety and how to manage it – naturally. She is
proud to have assisted some thousands of people within Australia and beyond.
A popular presenter to a range of organizations, Pauline speaks to corporate, education and health
industries. She is a Clinical Member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy, supports the
work of ADAVIC (Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria) and assisted in the development of
meditation teaching with the Australian Catholic University. She is the Founding Patron of
Meditation Australia, having initiated this peak body in 2006.
Meditation is rapidly gaining popularity as an effective life-skill. Pauline considers natural ‘stillness’
to be more advanced in its therapeutic value than meditation per se – a fundamental life art for
health and happiness across the life span.
