Adapve traffic signals use sensors to monitor direconal traffic flow, vehicle delay, and queues. This informaon is used to calculate an opmized traffic signal ming plan. The adapve algorithm shares the updated ming plan with the traffic signal controller. The opmizaon can occur as oſten as every second to schedule green me for waing and approaching vehicles. Many choices of adapve signal control technology are available from vendors, each with unique opmizaon techniques achieving different success in various contexts. Adapve is not a “one size fits all” technology. A systems engineering process is used to evaluate systems to determine which system(s) will meet the operaonal objecves at a parcular locaon before installaon. How do I learn more?
