1 Introduction
1.1 Abstract The ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY is an adapter board for the Fujitsu’s 16-bit F2MC-16FX Flash microcontroller series. It facilitates to add FlexRay connectivity to 16-bit MCU that do not comprise embedded FlexRay protocol cores.
The ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY must be used together with the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board for software development and testing. All configuration of evaluation board in this user guide aims for the MB96340 series! The board allows the designer immediately to start software development before his own final target system is available.
1.2 Features Includes Fujitsu's FlexRay communication controller MB88121B
12V unregulated external DC power supply
5V and 3.3V onboard voltage regulators
Onboard voltage supervisor monitors both supply voltages
 Power-LEDs for all supply voltages (D10, D11, D3)
 10 MHz crystal
Two FlexRay interfaces (channel A, B) are usable simultaneously Onboard FlexRay transceiver (AS8221B) Supports Power switching via FlexRay transceiver

1.3 General Description The ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY
supports the FUJITSU stand alone FlexRay Communication Controller MB88121B.
This user guide is describing PCB version V1.1. The PCB version is printed at the TOP side of the adapter board between the two Sub-D connectors J2 and J4.
The Adapter board is connected to 16-bit FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board via VG96 connector.
1.3.1 FlexRay CC Clocks The board is supplied with a 10MHz crystal as the main oscillation clock for the FlexRay CC. Using the internal PLL of the FlexRay CC, internal clock rates up to 80MHz can be achieved.
1.3.2 FlexRay CC Operating Mode The operation mode of the FlexRay communication controller can be selected by the DIP-switch S1.
1.3.3 FlexRay Physical Layer The connection to the physical layer of the FlexRay bus with 9-pin Sub-D connectors (J2 and J4) is realized with AMS8221B transceiver. The transceiver provides differential transmit and receive capability between FlexRay-controller and FlexRay-bus.
1.3.4 User Button There is one user button (SW1) on board, which is connected to the FlexRay physical layer. Button SW1 issues a local wake up request to the FlexRay physical layers (AMS8221B).
1.3.5 Power Supply The on-board step-down switching regulators allow the user to connect an unregulated DC input voltage of +12V (max. 2600 mA) to the Adapter board. The switching regulator provide the voltages of 5V (1.6A), 3.3V (1.6A) on the Adapter board. The switching regulators are short circuit protected and provide a thermal shutdown. The adapter board must also supply the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board. The Jumpers at FLASH-CAN-100P-340 need to be set accordingly.

2 Installation Remove the board carefully from the shipping carton.
First check if there are any damages before power on the adapter board.
To supply the adapter board, use the delivered In-Plug AC-DC Adapter (UPA 2000). Select the AC plug adapter suitable for your country power sockets
Figure 2-1: AC plug adapter and insert this adapter into the connection terminal on the AC-DC adapter.
Figure 2-2: AC plug adapter selection Check the selected output DC voltage of the AC-DC In-Plug adapter at the voltage selection key. It should be 12V! Change the output voltage only in a powered-down condition!
Figure 2-3: DC voltage selection Select the low voltage adapter suitable to the power connector X4 at the ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY and plug it to the connecting socket in the right orientation (+ connected to shield and GND connected to centre pin).

Now connect the adapter board to the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board via VG96 connector as shown below (see also chapter 6 for details).
Figure 2-5: Connection between evaluation board and adapter board
After that connect the DC low voltage adapter to the adapter board and plug in the In-Plug power supply to a power socket. The adapter board can be turned on with the on board power switch S2.
For the power supply of the ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY a DC input voltage of 12V is recommended. The positive voltage (+) must be connected to the shield, and ground (GND) must be connected to the centre of the connector X4! After power-on of the ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY, the two power-on LEDs D11 (5V) and D10 (3.3V) should be light. The LED D10 (board voltage) should also be light.
Note: The power supply is different depending which version of FLASH-VAN-100P-340 is used. Please refer to the chapter 3.7

3.2.1 Power switching by FlexRay physical layer
This board supports power switching by FlexRay physical layer (X2, X3).
For this reason the Vcc voltage (Selected by JP36) is controlled by a MOSFET (Q1).
12V level at the Gate pin will pass the Vcc voltage to the board. Connecting 0V at the Gate pin the MOSFET (Q1) switches off the Vcc power supply of the board.
JP9 selects if Vin (12V) or the FlexRay physical layer INHx pins are connected to the Gate pin. JP7 selects if INHx pin of FlexRay Physical layer channel A or channel B is used for power switching. JP6 and JP8 selects if INH1 or INH2 pins (channel A / B).

3.7 Reset-Generation In addition to the internal Power-On reset, the CC can be reset by an external reset, which can be generated by RESET user button (SW6) of the evaluation board FLASH-CAN-100P-340. The reset signal (low active) is transmitted to CC via VG96 connector (pin 19A) and pulled up by resistor R11.
3.8 Button SW1 (WAKE) JP18 Button SW1 can be connected to FlexRay Transceiver Local WAKE pin.

3-4 WAKE of FlexRay Transceiver Ch. B (X3) is connected to SW1
Default: grey
Table 3-13: Button SW1
Note: For the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 V2.0 the RESET button works only when the board is also supplied by an external unregulated DC power (power connector X12), respectively, it needs two power supplies in case of the usage of RESET button: one for adapter board, the other for evaluation board.

6.4 Power Supply Voltage The ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY
must work together with the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board. They are connected via VG96 connector. In terms of power supply only the adapter board is powered via external unregulated DC power supply voltage (9 V - 12 V DC). The evaluation board is powered via the VG96 connector (X4).
By default JP36 on the adapter board is set to connect 1-2. Therefore CC is powered by the on-board 5V Voltage regulation. By connecting 2-3 of the JP29 on the evaluation board, the MCU is supplied by a regulated 5V power source via X4 pin 1. In this case only the LED D16 on evaluation board is light. For more details please reference the USER GUIDE of the evaluation board FLASH-CAN-100P-340 V2.0.

6.5 External bus interface External bus interface is used by MCU for 16-bit parallel communication with CC. Some pins of MCU are reserved for the external bus interface.
In addition to the default jumper settings in Table 6-1, following changes on the FLASH-CAN-100P-340 evaluation board must be done to make the corresponding pins available for the external bus interface. For more details please reference the USER GUIDE of the evaluation board FLASH-CAN-100P-340 V2.0.

Problem Solution
Reset button does not work
Check voltage supply:
In case of using FLAS-CAN-100P-340 V2.0 the board need to be supplied via power connector X12. The reset device is monitoring both supplies 3.3V and 5V which cannot be supplied by Vcc extern line. (ADA-96340-88121-FLEXRAY board).
The FLASH-CAN-100P-340 V1.0 and V1.1 are using another reset device. For this version no power supply at Flash-CAN-100P-340 is required.
