    Adams/CarSimulation Environmentfor Vehicle Design and Testing

    Adams/CarWith Adams/Car, engineering teams can quickly build and test functional virtual prototypesof complete vehicles and vehicle subsystems. This helps cut time, cost, and risk in vehicledevelopment and improves the quality of the new vehicle designs. Working in the Adams/Carsimulation environment, automotive engineering teams can exercise their vehicle designs undervarious road conditions, performing the same tests they normally run in a test lab or on a testtrack, but in a fraction of the time.

    Adams/Car Package Modules Adams/Car has been packaged with a sui te of modules as descr ibed below.

    Adams/3D Road Adams/3D Road lets you simulate many types of three-dimensional smooth roads such ashighways, race tracks, test tracks, and parking structures. Adams/3D Road helps you studyvarious effects of smooth roads, such as bank angle and slope, on vehicle dynamics. You cansimulate particular roads including your companys own close-circuit test track.

    Adams/Car Ride Adams/Car Ride is an extension of the Adams/Car capabili ties to allow vir tual ride and comfortengineering up-front in the vehicle design process. Adams/Car Ride includes the requiredelements, models, and event denitions for building, testing, and post processing within the ridefrequency regime. The same model databse used for handling can now be user for ride andcomfort engineering.

    Adams/Car Vehicle DynamicsWith Adams/Car, you can perform various analyses on the vehicle to test the desin of the differentsubsystems and see how they inuence the overall vehicle dynamics. You can also examine theinuence of component modications, including changes in spring rates, damper rates, bushingrates, and anti-rollbar rates, on the vehicle dynamics. This module includes standard testingprocedures for cornering, courses, steering, quasi-static, and straight-line analyses.

    Adams/Car Suspension DesignWith Adams/Car, you can learn how a suspension controls the wheel motion and transmits loadfrom the wheels to the chassis. Build into the Suspension Template are standard suspensionanalyses to predict roll and vertical forces, static loads, steering characteristics, and wheel travel.

    Adams/SmartDriver The Adams/SmartDriver is an advanced dr iver simulator that can bring a vehicle design toits dynamics limits or user specied targets, such as a percentage of maximum longitudinalacceleration. Using Adams/SmartDriver, vehicle handling, durability, and ride performance canbe improved with minimal set-up.

    Adams/Driveline Adams/Dr iveline provides engineers and analys ts with specialized tools for modeling andsimulating driveline components and studying the dynamic behavior of the entire drivelingduring different operating conditions. It can also be used to explore the interaction betweenthe driveline and chassis components, such as suspensions, steering system, brakes, and thevehicle body.

    Adams/Chassis Adams/Chass is enables s imulation of full vehicle events (such as stead state drift, throttle offin turn, and constant radius) and half vehicle events including dynamic load case and staticvehicle characteristics. The power of Adams/Chassis is further enhanced when used with

    Adams/Ins ight to perform systematic exper iments on the vehicle model. The effect of mul tipledesign variations can be studies, the design can be optimized, and robustness issues can beaddressed effectively.

    Adams/Tire FTire Adams/Tire FTire software is an optional module that can be used to add tires to yourmechanical model and to simulate maneuvers such as braking, steering, acceleration, free-rolling, or skidding. It lets you model the forces and torques that act on a tire as it moves overroadways or irregular terrain. You can use Adams/Tire to model tires for either vehicle-handling,ride and comfort, and vehicle-durability analyses.
