Canon EOS 5D MARK III ManualOverview

This manual is meant to serve as an introduction to and as a reference guide for the Canon 5D Mark III. In this manual we will explain the basic features of the camera and the correct way to set up the camera to achieve the best images possible.

The EOS 5D Mark III is a high-performance, digital single-lens re ex camera featuring a ne-detail, full-frame (approx. 36 x 24 mm) CMOS sensor with approx. 22.3 e ective megapixels, DIGIC 5+, approx. 100% view nder coverage, high-precision and high speed 61-point AF, approx. 6 fps continuous shooting, Live View shooting, and Full High-De nition (Full HD) movie shoot-ing.

In addition to the features noted above, the user will notice more video options and better controls.

IMPORTANT!

While this camera does have many options for shooting and controls that allow the user to con gure the camera in many di erent ways, we ask that you only con gure certain controls in the manner referenced herein.

Changing certain settings on the camera will alter the nal le that is created in a permanent manner. This

manual, speci es items that need to be set in a certain way with this logo:

Depth of Field PreviewPressing and holding down while looking through the view nder will close the lens down to the set aper-ture. This allows the user to see the actual depth of

eld that the nal image will have.

Hot ShoeWhere an external ash can be attached

MirrorIn this type of camera, the mirror allows the user to see through the lens while composing the shot. The mirror moves out of the way of the sensor every time you press the shutter button.

MicrophoneWhen audio recording is enabled for video, this microphone is used, unless another mic is plugged in to the mic input

Lens ReleasePressing while gently turning the lens counter-clock-wise will allow for detachment of the lens from the body

Menu Options and Standard SettingsThis section will cover the various menu options and the standard settings. To access this menu, press the Menu button and rotate either the Main or k Control Dial. Click the Set or Info buttons to view or modify speci c menu settings.

The Mode Dial must be in a mode other than A in order to access all of the menu options. There are six tabs in the menu and each tab has certain sub tabs within it. Some of the video speci c menu settings can only be viewed and modi ed when the Live View Shooting/Movie Shooting Switch is set to Movie.

The menu settings noted below and in the following pages should be set as noted. Those items not reviewed here should not be modi ed.

Mirror lockup set to OEnables the mirror to be locked up and out of the way of the shutter to reduce shake for very long exposures

Lens aberration correction - set to Enable for both Peripheral and Chromatic assists in correcting for lens distortion

Quality Settings - set to LThis should always be set to L (large) JPEG only

Release shutter w/o Card - set to OIf this is set to on, the camera will shoot without a memory card inserted and the images will not be recorded anywhere
