Tub of Blooms at the County Fair

Who: Each Adair County 4-H club What: Plant a Tub of Blooms for display at the county fair When: Deliver Tub of Blooms to fairgrounds anytime between Sunday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 19. How: Tubs for each 4-H club will be in the Dairy Barn after Mon-day, June 5. Fair board member, Lori Herr, is furnishing the tubs and will have your club name on one tub. Tubs measure 17” in diameter and are 7 1/2” deep. DO NOT DECORATE THE OUT-SIDE OF THE TUB. Lori will have plastic signs with your club name to put in your Tub after you bring it to the fairgrounds. A simple form concerning the project will be emailed to club lead-ers. Bring the form and photo of your Tub of Blooms to the Exhibit Building on judging day. Tubs will be judged with the winning club receiving a cash prize sponsored by the fair board. Watering your Tub of Blooms will be your club’s responsibility during fair week. Clubs may take or leave their Tub on the last day of county fair. If you take your Tub, you need to keep it for use at the 2018 county fair. Why: Give club members/leaders an opportunity to participate in community service and provide color and beauty to the fair-grounds!

Iowa State Fair Livestock and Horticulture Entries are due July 1! To show at the Iowa State Fair, 4-H’ers must have completed 5th – 12th grades. Livestock entries (beef, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat goat, horse, sheep and swine) rabbit, dog and horticulture entries are due July 1st.

MAJOR CHANGES in completing

State Fair entries for Livestock, Horses, Dogs, Rabbits, and Horticulture -

Families (not Donna at the Extension office) must complete your state fair entries. Go here for help in completing your entries http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/statefair/livestock scroll to 2017 Exhibitor Entry Helpsheet. Print and follow the instructions carefully. Contact Donna if you don’t remember the email you use for 4honline. Following are items (word for word) sent from the State 4-H Office that you need to be aware of -

Families will be able to pay online. We would encourage any family to use this option as we believe it will be more convenient

for most, and will cause there to be fewer issues with invoices and checks not matching up.

Families will still have the option to pay by check. If they choose this option, THEY SHOULD NOT send it to their county office.

All checks and invoices should go directly to the Iowa State Fair. When they submit their fair entries they will receive an email with their

invoice. Their check MUST match the invoice and that invoice MUST accompany their payment. It if does not match it may delay or pre-

vent their entry approval.

Families can not add additional entries until any pending entries are approved. If they paid online that will likely occur by the end

of the next business day; if they paid by check, it may take up to a week. If they wait till the deadline, they risk not being able to make addi-

tional entries.

Counties will still have the ability to log into Fair Entry and review entries if you get questions. You SHOULD NOT approve any

entries, create new entries, or edit any entries. Any questions about those kinds of changes should be directed to Grace Davidson at

[email protected]

Remember - Rabbits to be shown at the State Fair need to be identified in 4honline and entered using Fair Entry by July 1. Go here for instructions to identify your rabbits http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/livestock-id scroll to Animal ID online.

State fair entries should be completed as soon as possible.
