• Understand the basic architecture of ActixOne

• Get an overview of the ActixOne modules and their functions

• Become familiar with the main concepts

of the ActixOne web client’s user interface

Log in to ActixOne

• Open a Web browser* and then enter the URL of the

ActixOne server in the browser's address field:

http://servername/ActixOne/

• Depending on the security setup determined by the administrator,

you may need to log in before you can begin using ActixOne.

If so, you are presented with a login screen.

• Enter a valid username and password

(optionally: Remember Username)

and then click the Log In button.

Size a GUI Element and Quick Open/Close

• To size a GUI element, click the separating bar

anywhere and drag it to the desired size, e.g.:

– Adjust the Map window height by moving the bar below it

– Adjust the Details pane and Map window width by moving the bar between them

• Then, with size adjusted, GUI elements can be quickly closed and

reopened by just clicking the arrow element on the separating bar,

e.g.:

– Close the Navigation menu to the left

Exercise: Using the Map

• Zoom:

– in and out

– to a user-defined rectangular area

– to an area 5 km around a given site

• Change the provider and/or type of the Background Map

• Go to a specific location

– a given town or address

– define a Home Location

• Measure the distance between two points on the map

• Display the Altitude Profile along a 10 km line from a given site

Using the Map: Pan and Zoom

• Pan the map by click/hold and move

• Zoom in or out as follows:

– move the mouse pointer over the icon or click it, then:

• click the house to zoom in, click the earth to zoom out or

• move the ruler along the slider

The respective zoom level (number) is shown on top.

– use the Page Up/Down or +/- keys on the keyboard:

• Page Up or + to zoom in, Page Down or - to zoom out

– use the mouse scroll wheel:

• scroll up to zoom in and down to zoom out

– double-click on the map to center and zoom in to the selected point

• Zoom into an area as follows:

– rectangular area:

• Press the Ctrl key and drag the mouse pointer to draw a box, to which ActixOne will zoom when you release the Ctrl key.

– circular area:

• Press the Ctrl and Alt keys and drag the mouse pointer to draw a circle, to which ActixOne will zoom when you release the keys.

Background Map layer

• The displayed maps are delivered by map providers.

– The available map providers (e.g. Bing, Google maps) and types

depend on how ActixOne has been configured by an Administrator.

• Use the Background Maps layer to select from the available

providers the type of map shown as background.

– Click on the name/logo to select the provider

– Select one available type for this provider

• Depending on the provider,

the background maps may include the following:

– Road maps with labels

– Aerial or satellite images

with or without labels, such as road and place information

– Terrain maps showing the altitude of the landscape

Search for Location

• Click the icon to open it and enter a search request

• Accepts search requests for

– city names, e.g. London

– street addresses, e.g. Beacon Street

– latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates

in the format lat:<lat_value> lon:<lon_value>

• If multiple map providers are configured in ActixOne,

select the map provider

• If multiple results are found, select from the shown list

Search for Elements like sectors is covered in another course part.

Home Location

• is a defined map view with stored latitude, longitude, and zoom level.

• Make use of the Home Location in ActixOne by:

– setting a Home Location

– for instantly going back to your Home Location at any time.

• Remember a Home Location

– Select the map view (location and zoom level)

– Click the Tools icon and select Remember home-location.

• Go to Home Location

– Press the Home (or Pos1) key on the keyboard

or click the Tools icon and select Go to home-location to

Distance Ruler, Altitude Profile

• Distance Ruler

– for measuring distances and azimuths

– Click the icon to activate the Distance Ruler

– Then hold the Shift key and use the left mouse button to drag out a line

• The distance and the azimuth are shown for the line

– Click the active icon again to deactivate the Distance Ruler

• Altitude Profile (using Topocoding service)

– shows a graphical representation of the terrain altitude

– Click the icon to activate the Altitude Profile

– Then draw a line just as for the ruler

• The Altitude Profile along the line is shown

• Also the distance and the azimuth are shown for the line

– Move the mouse on the profile to see the tooltip

– Click the active icon again to deactivate the Altitude Profile

Map Scale and Unit, Print the Map

• The Map Scale is located at the bottom center of the map.

– The Lat-Lon coordinates below the scale represent the cursor position.

• Scale Unit

– shows either metric units (kilometers and meter)

or imperial units (miles, yards, and feet)

– Click on the displayed unit to toggle the Scale Unit

• Print Map

– Click the Tools icon and select Print Map to

• Print the map as it is currently seen on the screen,

i.e. at the same zoom level and with the same map layers

System Date

• The ActixOne database contains present as well as historical data.

– Thus, ActixOne keeps track of network configuration changes.

• The System Date* determines the

day for which data is displayed on the map.

– Namely, only those elements, such as sectors, are shown

on the map that were available or active on that date.

– Click the System Date to select a date

* The System Date is only available in the Network Optimization module.

Exercise: Manage Map Layers

• Map layers:

– Activate the layers you want to see, deactivate the others

– Display a given layer on top of all others

• Network Configuration display:

– For a multi-technology, e.g. GSM/UMTS, network: Show the UMTS sites and sectors only

– For a multi-layer, e.g. dual-carrier UMTS network: Show the sites and sectors of one carrier only

– What can be reasons, if sites or sectors are not shown on the map?

– Colorize the sector wedges by a sector attribute:

• Use configuration data, e.g. Scrambling Code

• Use performance data, e.g. Dropped Call Rate

– Scale the size of the sector wedges by a sector attribute:

• Use configuration data, e.g. Antenna Height

• Use performance data, e.g. Dropped Call Rate

• Use transient data, e.g. an own sector attribute

– What can be reasons, if sectors are not colorized or scaled accordingly on the map?

• Neighbors display:

– Select a sector and show its neighbors

Map Layers in ActixOne

• The map view is built up from a number of Map Layers that are stacked

on top of one another, each Layer displaying a specific set of information.

• The final view is equivalent to looking down

from above onto the top of the stacked layers.

• To control the display of layers, open the icon

to show the stack of layers:

– Show or hide any layer by the checkbox

– Adjust the layer transparency by the slider

• left is more transparent, right is more opaque

– Control the order of the stacked Layers:

drag and drop the different Layers in the list

– access the Layer properties (if any):

click the layer‘s name (see in the following the Networks layer as example)

Network Element Visibility: Principles

• Visibility depends on the current Zoom level

– A „Zoom level at which elements are shown“ can be defined in the Network

Layer Properties:

• a number between 1 (global view) and 18 (most detailed view)

– At that defined zoom level and higher (i.e. further zoomed-in), the element is

visible on the map

– At lower zoom level (i.e. further zoomed-out), the element is not visible

• Selected sector

– Shown large than other sector

– May still be visible even though the visibility of its type of sectors has been disabled

Network Element Visibility: ChecklistIf certain network elements are not visible on the map, please check the following:

1. Networks Layer

– Is the respective technology activated?Is the respective frequency band or carrier activated?

– Is the current zoom level on the map close enough to see the sites?

• For the respective technology and band/carrier, the map zoom level must be equal to or higher than the ‚General‘ Visibility slider setting.

– Is the current zoom level on the map close enough to see the sectors?

• For the respective technology and band/carrier, the map zoom level must be equal to or higher than the ‚Sector‘ Visibility slider setting.

– Is the respective element suppressed by an active filter?

2. Legend

– Is the corresponding element activated in the Legend?

3. System Date and Location

– Is the element data available:

• at the current System Date?

• for the area in the current map view?

Select / Deselect on or more Sectors

• To select one sector, click the sector wedge on the map

– If multiple sectors are overlaid, a menu shows up:

Select the desired sector name.

– A selected sector is flashing and typically displayed larger.

– The relative size of selected sectors (≥ 100%)

is defined in the Network Layer Properties

• To deselect, Ctrl+click the selected sector

• To select multiple sectors:

– select one sector and add further sectors to the selection by Shift+click or Ctrl-click or

– select all sectors in a rectangular area: Shift+drag to draw the reactangle or

– select all sectors in a circular area: Shift+Alt+drag to open the circle

• To deselect multiple sectors:

– click only one sector (anyone; this deselects all others)

– then Ctrl+click this sector (to also deselect this one)

Site and Sector Properties

• To view the Site Properties, double-click the site icon

• To view the Sector Properties, double-click the sector icon

– If multiple sites or sectors are overlaid, a menu shows up:Select the desired site or sector name.

• The properties are shown forthe current System Date.

• The tree structure of the propertiesis defined by an administrator.

Colorize Sectors by an Attribute

• Open the Network Layer Properties

– Select the technology and band/carrier and the Sector tab

– Enable Color and click to select an attribute for sector coloring

• In the Attribute Picker:

– specify a Network Data attribute

• enter a string for instant full text search among all sector attributes

(on configuration or performance) loaded in the ActixOne database or

• select an attribute from the list/tree below

– then click

• Now, if the respective sectors are visible in your map view:

– the sector wedges are colorized accordingly and

– the respective attribute is listed in the tooltip of that sector and

– the Legend contains in a hierarchical tree the applicable

value vs. color scheme („Format Group“)

For “Transient Data”, refer to subsequent slides.

Legend and Format Groups

• The Legend contains an entry for every layer and item displayed on the map.

• For items that are displayed with a value-dependent color scheme, the respective Format Group is available in the Legend.

– e.g. for sectors colored by a performance attribute„Voice_DropRate_Percent“

• Click the name to open the Format Group

– The Global Format Groups, which are available in the systemas default, are defined by an administrator.

– User Format Group:

• by default equal to the respective Global Format Group

• can be changed by the user and is saved for this user

• can be reverted to the Global one

– edit the value ranges manually orclick to generate ranges

Visibility of Sector Properties

At first, ensure that sectors are visible:

• verify 1. Network Layer Properties vs. Zoom level, 2. Legend, 3. System Data and Location

If sector wedges are visible, but are not colored or scaled as expected:

1. Attribute

– The selected attribute may not be defined for these sectors for the current System Date.

• A configuration attribute remains valid since the last date of loading / update.

• However, a performance attribute is only valid for the dates, for which it was loaded into ActixOne.

2. Legend

– The Format Group for this attribute may not appropriately be defined

Sector Color, Scale, and Border Color

• Sector attributes can be used to determine the:

– Color of the sector wedge – see previous slide

– relative size (Scale) of the sector wegde – similar to sector color

– Border Color of the sector wedge – similar to sector color

• Example:

– Color by UMTS Scrambling Code (SC)

– Scale by Antenna Height

– Border Color by Dropped Call Rate

Note that the values of all display attributes

are also listed in the tooltip.

Technology/Band-Specific Display

• All sector visualization properties

can be defined per

technology and frequency band/carrier,

e.g.:

– using technology-specific attributes for coloring,

like UMTS SC or GSM BCCH channel number

– using different Sector Sizes for colocated sectors

‘Lines to Neighbors’ Layer

• The Lines to Neighbors Properties control the sector neighbor relations

on the map

• Select the Source and Target networks

• Then, specify settings, optionally separately for Outbound and Inbound:

– Show arrows

– Set Curve Percentage for straight (0%) or curved lines

– Width

– Color, optionally by relational attribute

Using Charts

• Charts display series data over a particular period for one or

more selected attributes or elements

• This helps to troubleshoot network problems because poorly

performing elements stand out from the others

• Actix One provides two types of charts – those accessible

from the Chart panel and the mini charts

Creating a chart

• Click the Chart icon on the map to open the chart panel, and

select a chart or the New Chart Template button.

• Select the sectors you want to investigate, using the Element

Picker tool or by selecting them from the map.

• Specify the attributes you want to compare on these sectors,

using the Attribute Picker tool.

• To determine the time period for the data in the chart, use

the Time Picker button.

Creating a chart

• Customize the chart as required by changing the characteristics of the series, such as by modifying the chart's timescale, adding and configuring axes, and choosing to display the data as a chart, a table, or a histogram.

• If you want to prevent any changes to the chart during the current session, click the Lock button.

• You can select events to display on the chart by clicking the Event Options button and then selecting the check boxes for the relevant events.

• Choose between viewing the data as a chart , a table , a histogram , or as a scatter plot .

• Tables are used in ActixOne to display arrange attribute data

over a period of time for one or more selected sectors

The CEA Mesh

� 100m x 100m grid squares

� Geolocated call trace is aggregated at the mesh, area and sector level

� Every grid square is an element that can have properties, statistics,

history etc.

� Dimensionable CE KPIs are created for each grid square

� Mesh information can be visualised on the map using the Customer

Experience layer controls

� All existing ActixOne functionality is compatible with mesh elements;

Attributes

• Click on to the ‘Layer’ tool in the map window

• Check the box for the ‘Customer Experience’ layer and click on the layer

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display Properties’ box, click on the attribute icon in ‘Attribute’

• The list of attributes will be shown. Type “CE_” in the search box and all customer experience attributes will be shown.

• Double click on any attribute and click ‘Back’.

• Select multiple attributes by double clicking individually all required attributes.

• The selected attribute(s) will appear in the Attribute List dropdown.

Dimensions - Overview

• Dimensions are the filtering mechanism for the CE attributes in order to

view a specific customer experience segment.

• The available dimensions are (with examples):

– Device: e.g. iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S5, Android phones

– Connection Type: e.g. CS, PS, SRB

– Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor, Outdoor

– Home/Roamer: Home, National, International

– VIP: VIP, NonVIP

– Location Aware: Yes, No

– Cause/Reason: PoorRF, Capacity, Handover

Dimensions

• Return to the attribute selection

window.

• Select any CE attribute that has

the dimension icon (shown in the

screenshot).

• A box for selecting the dimension

values will appear. Select the

dimensions accordingly.

• Click on ‘OK’.

Display Options Overview

These settings define how the CE data is computed and displayed on the map:

� Display – Select the aggregation level between mesh and polygon level

� Format – Select the number of legend ranges to be displayed on the map

� Borders – Select between view with and without border

� Aggr – Select the aggregation arithmetic for the data over the defined period

� Tier – Select the number of tiers around a particular mesh to be computed

for aggregation

Display Options: Display

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on the ‘Display’

dropdown.

• The options available are:

– Mesh – aggregation is individual to

each 100x100m grid

• Blended – smoothed view

• Discrete – unsmoothed view

– Area – aggregation is individual to

each polygon (as uploaded by the

admin user)

Display Options: Format

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on the ‘Format’

dropdown.

• The options available are to define the

number of ranges in the legend

• Drag the ‘Format’ slider to the right (to

amplify the higher values) or to the left

(to amplify the lower values).

Display Options: Borders

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on the ‘Borders’

dropdown.

• That would enable the borders of the

mesh

Display Options: Smoothing

• Used to define the aggregation

method for the attribute across a

selected area, or a Tier of mesh

squares.

• Tier 0 is the individual mesh square,

Tier 1 includes all surrounding squares,

and Tier 2 includes all squares within

2 of a particular square, and so on.

Data Window Overview

These settings define the area, time and attribute window in which the CE data is

displayed on the map:

� Scope – Specify the area filter in which the data is viewed

� Filter – Specify the attribute filter in which the data is viewed

� Period – Specify the time window in which the data is viewed

Data Window: Scope

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on the ‘Scope’

icon.

• In the ‘Customer Experience Scope’

box, click on the dropdown and select

the desired scope options. Then

specify the second level scope e.g. for

‘Location’ scope, type the area and

radius.

• Click on the ‘Save’ icon.

Data Window: Filter

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on the ‘Filter’

icon.

• In the ‘Filter’ box, click on the ‘Field’

dropdown to specify the attribute, and

modify other filtering columns if

required.

• Settings for Aggr, Period and Hourly

can also be overridden for the selected

filter.

• Multiple filters with AND or OR logic

can also be combined in the overall

filter by clicking on the ‘Add Row’ icon.

Data Window: Period

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, drag the period slider

at the bottom of the box to specify the

time period filter.

• Click on the ‘Hourly’ check box to

aggregate over the hourly data.

Templates

• In the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box, click on dropdown

near the ‘New Template’ icon.

• Click on ‘Save Template As’ to open the

‘Save Template’ window.

• Type a template name, specify or add

a path, choose between save for all or

user, then click on ‘Save’.

• The template will save all the settings

on the ‘Customer Experience Display

Properties’ box.

CE Maps (Mini)

• Referring to the ‘Attributes’ and

‘Dimensions’ topic earlier, select

multiple number of attributes or

dimensions combinations.

• Open the mini charts window pane on

the right side of the map window and

select the ‘CE Maps’ tab. The mini

maps of all the attributes and

dimensions combinations (except the

first one) will be displayed individually.

CE Map Layer settings summary

1. Specify the period context in the map window

2. Enable and open the Customer Experience Layer

3. Select the Attribute(s) and Dimension(s)

4. Specify other settings:

– Display Options – Display, Format, Borders, Aggr, Tier

– Data Window – Scope, Filter, Period

5. Save the selected setting as a template if required

6. Click on ‘Refresh the display’ (if not already)

CE Charts

• Two access methods available for charts:

Chart Tool Mini Charts

CE Charts: Chart Tool (1)• Click one at least one mesh on the map

(select more by holding CTRL button and click)

• Click on the ‘Chart’ tool on the map window and select ‘Default’ in ‘Customer Experience’. The chart window will open.

• Click on the ‘Attribute’ icon around the top right corner and select an attribute(s) e.g. CE_ConnectionAttempts (any dimensioning can be applied).

• Modify the period if required using the ‘Time Picker’ icon (not required if your context date is set as desired in the map window earlier).

• The selected attribute(s) will be charted accordingly. Hovering the mouse on any chart point will show the actual values.

• The chart type can be changed by changing the dropdown around the top left corner from ‘Default’ to say ‘Hourly’.

CE Charts: Chart Tool (2)• Different views of the selected mesh(s) and

attribute(s) can be obtained from:

– Table View

• Click on the ‘Table View’ icon around the top middle in the window.

• The table containing the actual values from the chart is shown.

– Histogram View

• Click on the ‘Histogram View’ icon around the top middle in the window.

• The histogram containing the actual values from the chart is displayed.

• Different arithmetic operation can be applied e.g. rollup, max, min or average.

• Different data aggretagtion can be applied e.g. over time, over elements or both

CE Charts: Mini Charts• In the Chart Tool, save any attribute(s)

selection as a template (using the same concept, refer to the ‘Template’ topic earlier on how to create templates).

• Keep or modify the selected mesh(s) on the map as desired.

• Open the mini charts window pane on the right side of the map window and select the ‘Charts’ tab.

• Click on the dropdown box and click on the chart template saved earlier. A mini chart will show accordingly for this template.

• The default mini charts are mainly meant for networks (“CT_” attributes) rather than meshes (“CE_” attributes). To utilize these charts, select cell(s) on the map instead of mesh(s) by using the same method i.e. CTRL and click. The default mini charts will be populated accordingly.
