Did you know…

The ‘’Club de curling de la Vallée–de-la- Gatineau’’ celebrates its 16th birthday this Year. People of all ages can play curling and sturling. There are leagues for everyone: beginners, recreational, women, men, seniors, freelance and youth leagues. You can also rent the ice sheets. Curling is a sport of precision. Two teams of four players compete in an eight-end game. It takes approximatively two hours to play a game. A game is equivalent to a three kilometers walk, and is excellent for cardio and equilibrium. Sturling is another activity offered at the club. Two teams of two players play a six-end game. Each person throws two stones and sweeping is limited to certain ice areas. Sweeping is a crucial aspect of the game. It allows the stone to maintain its speed and strengthens its trajectory. The broom is also used to clean the ice surface of possible debris. Granite stones have a weight of about 20 kilograms. They have a concave part underneath in order to reduce the surface area in contact with the ice. The length of the track varies from 146 and 150 feet. Its width varies as from 14 feet to 15 feet. In addition to the two ‘’houses’’, we find a median line and ‘’T’’ lines delimiting the throwing area.
