ACTIVITY DAYS 2017 PROGRAMMEYEARS 7, 8, 9, 10

Activity Days offer students many valuable opportunities not normallyavailable within the weekly timetable; the opportunity to spend a long periodon an activity of their choice; the opportunity to organise their own activityand time and the opportunity to work with other students and staff in adifferent learning environment. All the activities detailed here last for the threedays of Activities week with the Manchester and Watersports trips lasting alittle longer.

We hope that all students will gain maximum benefit from this experience. itshould help students develop their self-discipline, independence and theirability to co-operate with other people. These skills are becoming moreimportant, both for their progress in school as they prepare for GcsEs and formaking the most of the world beyond school.

Activity Days are an integral part of the curriculum at Bishop Fox’s. it istherefore very important that all students select their chosen activity with careand ensure that they attend the full activity. it is said that “the more you putinto an activity the more you get out!” We expect our students to put effortand enthusiasm into their chosen activity so that they will experience abeneficial and enjoyable time.

FORWARD PLANNINGThe organisation of Activity Days is complicated and we have to know thateach activity has sufficient support to cover the costs. Therefore we ask thatpayments or deposits, if applicable, be made by the published deadline.students need to be aware that we cannot guarantee their choice. We willhowever do all we can to ensure students undertake an activity from theirinitial preferences.

please be aware that the activities programme can only be offered if:• student choices match the number of places in each activity• The full costs of all activities can be covered

Therefore, we may on occasion, have to pull an activity from running ifnumbers are too low.

Fairy Doors and Fantasy Castles

A trip to castell coch - a fantasy castle inWales.

The castle will inspire your threedimensional clay castle building which youwill begin when we return to Bishop Fox’s forthe second and third days.

You will need to think about and createtowers, castellations, moats, secret doorsand dragons to decorate yourconstruction.

The site is set in 40 Acres of mixed woodlandon an eastern spur of the Blackdown hills,near Taunton.

if you enjoy designing and making items asgifts or for you to keep, then come anddevelop your craft skills!

Use a variety of paints, fabrics, sequins,beads, papers, buttons and crafttechniques to make several handmadeitems.

Watersports Adventure

A fantastic opportunity to spend 8 days 7nights at la Fosca on the beautiful costaBrava.

This trip features an action-packed itineraryof water sports and adventure activities aswell as excursion opportunities to exploreplaces of interest in the local area. it’s notonly about having fun.

here is your chance to become a TV/filmmake up artist.

You will be given a brief for the productionthat you are working on and you will beresponsible for creating suitable hair andmake up for your celebrity. This is a residential trip that will include coachtransport, ferry and 2 nightsaccommodation at The Magic circus hotel.

Gone Fishing

We visit a fishing lake in cullompton oneach of the three days and you areguaranteed a catch!

The activity is open to those with noprevious knowledge of fishing as well asto experienced anglers!

Fully qualified instructors will be there tohelp you with both basic skills andadvanced techniques.

Basic fishing equipment and bait will beprovided though experienced anglersare encouraged to bring their own. Thereare only limited facilities on site so youmust bring your own food and drink.

Film Making

A 3 day activity making a film on the schoolsite with a professional film company.

it will involve the whole process - planning,pre-production, production and post-production.

You will learn skills to then make your ownfilms independently in the future.

A profesional film maker will be on hand tohelp you make a series of short films, whichwill be publishd online.

The week will end with a showcase of all ofyour films and popcorn!

Mosaic Mirrors

students will design, make and take at least2 mosaic mirrors home at the end of 3 days,depending on size.

The first stage is to design and make small-scale product to understand the methodsused in production and finish it to aprofessional standard.

The second stage is on a larger scale withgreater emphasis on creativity andcustomised design.

Materials used are polished metal or acrylicmirror, not glass for safety reasons. Theactivity combines contemporary computermanufacturing with traditional craftmethods.

it’s no secret that we live in one of the mostbeautiful parts of our country. But, did youknow that there are hidden gems right hereon our doorstep?

Activities include:

Explore the cheddar caves and see thefantastic limestone formations. Discover howour ancestors lived there, how they madetheir tools and the animals they hunted.

Go Fossil hunting at lyme Regis! Despiteover two hundred years of collecting,remains new to science are still beingdiscovered each year. You never know whatis out there waiting to be found! There will bea prize for the best fossil found on the day!

Horseriding

spend three fabulous days at the heazleEquestrian centre where you will groom,ride and care for horses and ponies.

You must be a competent rider (able todo the ‘rising trot’). You will be placed in agroup appropriate to your skills where youwill be given the opportunity to walk, trot,canter and perhaps jump!

The three days will finish with a fun showwhere prizes will be awarded. No specialriding equipment needed but shoes orboots with a small heel are compulsory.
