Activity 8: Putting Our Skills All Together 1. Open a new Microsoft Word document. Type your name. Hit Enter once. Type Activity 20. Hit Enter 2x. Minimize your document. 2. Double click on the Internet Explorer icon. You are going to do a Google search on 4 different subjects: an animal, a famous person, a famous place, and a type of food. Each subject will be of your own choice as long as it fits into the four different categories. 3. In each fourth of your document you will include: a. Name of Subject matter using Word Art. (Text Doggie on “Behind Text”) b. TWO pictures of subject matter, sized to fit. (Text Doggie on “Behind Text”) c. ONE sentence long fact about the subject. d. ONE quotation (sentence long only!) about subject matter from a quotation site. 4. To get the facts, do a goggle search on your subject matter. (GOOGLE – WEB). When you find a fact you wish to use, highlight the sentence, right click and COPY, then click on your minimized document and paste it onto the page. Highlight the text again and then click on Text Box in the drawing toolbar. You can now put the fact into a text box and move it around to fit in the space available. You can change the font size within the text box. Make the font size and text box size match. 5. To get a quotation, type “Famous Quotations about…” and your subject matter. Select a quotation. Be sure to include WHO said it, and put it in quotations marks. Put quotation into a text box. If you can’t find a quotation, put a second FACT into a text box. 6. To get your pictures, do a google search with IMAGES instead of WEB. A variety of pictures will appear. Click on one of your choice, then click at the top where it says “see full size image”. Right click and copy the picture as it appears. Paste into the document. Remember to “text doggie” on “Behind Text” so you can move the picture around, but NOT alter your text boxes. 7. Repeat Steps 4 -6 for your other three subjects. Try different fonts, styles, effects, and borders on your text boxes. Use the SAME format for the WordArt titles. 8. When you have your information and pictures in each fourth of the paper, use the line icon on the drawing toolbar to put divider lines between the four sections. Do NOT put these lines on until completely done! 9. Save as Activity
