*AFFIRMATION “Belief and Trust in Jesus Christ”

We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign and

kingdom of God:

preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives,

teaching by word and deed;

blessing the children,

healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted;

eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners,

and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.

Unjustly condemned, Jesus was crucified,

suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world.

God raised Jesus from the dead,

vindicating his sinless life,

breaking the power of sin and evil,

delivering us from death to life eternal.

With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can

separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

WORDS ON WORSHIP

“Originating in the fourth century, Lent was targeted toward the

catechumenate, the group of persons preparing to join the church. The length

of the season gave them time to consider their decision and prepare themselves

for committed involvement in a new community…. Now Lent offers us the

same gift – a long time to examine where we have been and where we want to

go in our spiritual lives…. We are free to think about options in our own rela-

tionships to God, and to choose how we will move forward. Lent affords a little

time to calm down, breathe deeply, and then make some considered choices.”
