Active Kids Vouchers New Equipment

Last year we collected the Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers, with our vouchers we bought lots of

different new equipment including ; scales for cookery (pictured), inflatable earth ball, sand and water

trays for Early Years, large spinning top, footballs and pumps, ring toss game, sack hoppers (pictured),

tethering straps for running, pop-up target centre and a large parachute.

Hollywater registered as a collection point to support the collection of Christmas gifts for children living

in poverty. We were a helping hand trying to ensure that as many children as possible woke up with a

present on Christmas day. Together we collected two large boxes of gifts that have been donated to the

appeal. Thank you to parents, staff and pupils who contributed and supported this initiative.

EMI Music Sound Foundation Grant

chasing some musical percussion instruments this term! The children are already making some good use

of them, and Mrs Brookes has said that some photos will be available on the web site next term. Well

On Wednesday 20th December parents of pupils at Hollywater School came to the Secondary and FE

Hollywater Christmas Tree

Hollywater Helpers

Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree…. A big thank you goes to

Luff’s Mill Lane Farm Shop and Garden Centre for the donation

of a superb 8 ft Christmas tree which has taken pride of place

in the school hall during this week’s festivities. Everyone has

commented what a great tree it is!

FareShare Project

I am really pleased to be able to inform you that we will be working with FareShare, a registered charity,

and Tesco’s in Liss after the Christmas holidays. We will be participating in the FareShare project. The

aim of this project is to ensure that ‘ no good food goes to waste ’. In January we will be collecting food

parcels from Tesco’s, consisting of bread, fruit, vegetables and any other products available, these food

parcels will then be shared with families within the school community. The FareShare Community Co-

Ordinator for Hampshire will be running a training session for key staff at Hollywater which will support

the setting up of the project. Once this training has been carried out then further details about the

project and how we will be organising this will be sent out to all parents in the New Year.

Mrs Brookes—Cooking

Mrs Brookes’ class are becoming more independent during our cooking lessons. We are learning to

follow instructions to find the equipment and make our own food. We are really good at making angel

delight.

Ms Hilken’s Class

We would like to welcome our fantastic new

Year R pupils to the school. They have settled in

really well and have been enjoying their lessons.

They particularly like going to the soft play and

sensory rooms! The class have been getting used

to all of the new routines and have made good

progress with their communication skills. We

look forward to watching them grow during their

time at Hollywater.

FE - The Kingsley Centre

Seasons – KS2

Every 2 weeks FE2 join in the

activities at the Kingsley

Centre. We have a singing

session in the morning and we

stay for lunch. After lunch we

work off our tasty lunch with

chair exercises. We really

enjoyed being part of the

community activities.

Engaging with the world: Rebound therapy; FE1 have been using the trampoline as part of their

therapy unit. On the trampoline they develop body awareness skills, balance, co-ordination and

communication. They all really enjoy the sessions.

This half term Mrs MacEnri and Miss

Bowen’s classes have been learning

about seasons. To support this we

have visited Alice Holt twice to

experience Autumn and Winter.

We were able to make comparisons

between the seasons, as well as

enjoying the outdoor environment.

We investigated freezing and

thawing and why we use salt on the

roads in Winter. We have learnt

about the features of all the seasons

and we have even had a Summer

picnic.

KS4—Duke Of Edinburgh

Key Stage 4 Pupils at Hollywater School in Bordon are, for the first time this year, participating in the

‘Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award’ scheme. To gain the award, they must develop skills within 4 sections

– volunteering, skills, physical and expedition. This term in their skills section they have been learning to

cook simple snacks. Next term they will be completing elements of the physical section by participating in

various countryside walks. This term for the volunteering section of the award, they chose to organise

and host the annual ‘Children In Need’ SPOTACULAR event which was held in school on November

17th 2017. All pupils were invited to wear spotty clothes for the day and to take part in a sponsored

Danceathon. The day was enjoyed by all and as a school we raised an AMAZING £1000.00.!!!! Special

congratulations must go to all of the Key Stage 4 pupils and staff who took an active role in making this

event such a huge success.

Whitehill and Bordon Community Group - Skating

We were very lucky to obtain 4 sessions at the Whitehill and Bordon Community Rink this last

week. Pupils from across the school were able to go skating, a new experience for many. All wrapped

up in their hats, coats and gloves. The pupils had a fantastic time - some even managed to stay on their

feet! Thank you to Whitehill and Bordon Community group for the invite.

Miss Bowen’s Class Dare to Believe Festival

Miss Bowen’s Class attended the Dare to Believe Festival at Bohunt School. We were assigned a nation to

compete as and we got Great Britain! We took part in five different paralympic or accessible sport;

boccia, goalball, sitting volleyball, tethered running and races. We all had an amazing day, demonstrating a

high level of competition, interaction and sportsmanship. Katie won an award for being resilient; at the

start of the day she wasn’t very happy and by the end she was laughing and taking part independently.

Christmas Parties and Disco

On Wednesday afternoon all pupils had the opportunity to attend Hollywater’s Christmas Disco and then

came together in their departments for party food. Thank you to all parents for your food donations, you

were as generous as ever! The pupils had an amazing time, dance moves were plenty and staff were

dragged to the dance floor! All departments also got a very special visitor….can you guess who? We have

certainly had a fantastic final week and everyone has enjoyed the Christmas celebrations.
