What is an action verb?• An action verb is a verb that shows
action.
Examples: run, walk, sing, dance, talk, write

What is a direct object?
• A direct object is the noun that receives the action of the verb.
The direct object is always after the verb.I sent money to my sister.
Money is the direct object since that is what I sent. I didn’t send my sister.
How do I find the direct object?
Step #1: Identify the verb.Step #2: Ask what or who receives the action.
Example: I drew a picture for Miss Lowery.Step #1: What is the verb? Drew Step #2: Who/what did I draw? A picture. Picture is my direct object.
The dogs like the little boy.
Step #1: What is the verb? Like
Step #2: Who/what do they like? The boy
Boy is your direct object.
What is an indirect object?
• An indirect object tells us to whom or for whom an action was performed.
Example: Sara gave Jordyn ice cream.Jordyn is the indirect object.
The indirect object is always before the direct object. Not all sentences have an indirect object.
Sentences follow this pattern: Subject-verb-indirect object-direct object
