Macbeth Banquet Scene – your turn! due: Monday, Nov. 4

For this creative writing assignment, you get to decide how you would create the banquet scene (Act 3, Scene 4) if you were directing a movie of Macbeth. Reread ACT III SCENE 4 FROM YOUR TEXT. Then write at least five sentences on each of the following:

1.Overall Concept: What is the overall idea, setting, time period, etc. of your film? (The film clips we just saw should give you some ideas…) BE CREATIVE!! Wild West? Communist China? Under the sea?

2.Setting of the Scene: What specifically would the banquet room look like? Describe it so that an artist could create the scenery necessary. EXTRA CREDIT: Create an illustration of the banquet room.

3.Costumes: What would the major characters wear and look like? (Both setting & costumes should match your overall concept.) EXTRA CREDIT: Create an illustration of the costumes.

4.Ghost: Describe the ghost in detail. Would the audience see it or would Macbeth just describe it in words as he “imagines” seeing it?

Act III, scene 1

• Imagine you are a psychologist counseling Macbeth. Write 2 reports – one that you will keep in an official file, and then a private one that you will keep in your personal possessions. Each report must be at least a paragraph. Think about how the two reports MUST be different – if for nothing else than your own safety! (This assignment counts as TWO grades!)

• Lady Macbeth is finding that the murder of Duncan has not brought the happiness she had expected. Write a short soliloquy Lady Macbeth might add after the line “Naught’s had, all’s spent”. (Nothing is gained, everything is lost.) Try to use Shakespearean language as best as you can. Minimum of ten lines.
