NE ACPA Welcome NEWSLETTER New England Issue 1 Pre-Convention By Jonathan Ross Letourneau for their support and guidance. Gavin and I explained that we were concerned for the ACPA members in the states that don’t currently have a regional professional home, only a national one, and that we would like to begin a conversation about what a regional home might look like. Of course we wanted all state associations to keep their individual identify, but we wanted to see if there was a way to be as regionally inclusive as we are at the state level. The main goal of what would be a New England ACPA consortium would be to create ways to increase the professional development and networking opportunities to all ACPA members in New England while still maintaining individual state identities. Dawn Eades and Katherine Letourneau were both on board and both brought it to their state boards who voted in favor of continuing the conversation. What the four of us decided is that the first logical step for connecting every- one was to develop a quarterly newsletter to share professional development opportunities in each state, as well as information from the region, provide networking opportunities, and give professionals an opportunity to publish an article on an area of expertise, research or best practice. We reached out to professionals who would be willing to represent each state and started an editorial board. This board is charged with the task of deciding on newsletter topics, and articles each month, as well as identifying authors, and soliciting updates from state asso- ciations and other state events. The following professionals agreed to represent their states: VT- Jonathan Ross, NH- Dan Smith, MA- John Mayo, ME- Hannah Gladstone, CT- Joliana Yee, and RI- remains Open. We would be happy to expand our editorial board and include as many professionals as are interested. From all of us on the New England Newsletter team I would like to welcome any professional from our region to join us in the process of making this quarterly publication a reality. If you would like to join the editorial board staff please contact any current staff member whose contact information can be found in their profiles. We would also like to encourage you to write about any professional development that may be happening in your state or at your institution. The call for sub- missions will be ongoing. We would encour- age you to share any research, best practices, personal stories from the field, perspective pieces, and many more. We would also invite you to join us at an informal ACPA NE Social on Monday, March 31st at 8pm at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis Level One Lounge. If you are unable to attend but would still like to become involved in this venture please contact me at [email protected]. Hello New England ACPAers, I am very excited to be writing to you all in our first edition of the New England ACPA Newsletter. More than that, I am excited for the chance to connect more closely with you all through this great endeavor. When I was first approached about this idea I was immediately excited by the prospect for binging together the 6 New England states to collaborate and share with each other. One of the things I have been looking for in NH was a way to be more involved in the local area with colleagues who are nearby (although nothing is nearby in NH). This is my third year working at Dartmouth, but I have spent a life time in NH. It has been exciting to work in my home state and connect with folks on a whole new level through the higher education community. It has also been fun to see how both small and large the field is by connecting with grad school colleagues who are now working in NH alongside me. In the past I have hosted networking events here at Dartmouth reaching out the NH, VT, and ME with some good success. I believe that through this newsletter we can bring a new sense of collaboration and con-nectedness to the Higher Ed community in New England. As the NH Representative to the Editorial board I will be reaching out to folks across the state looking for submissions and updates about what’s new in your neck of the woods. If you have ideas or updates please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]

coordinator for the NCAA Choices Grant. Jonathan is a member of both the National Association Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the ACPA College Student Educators International. It is exciting to have the opportunity to bridge state lines in order to bring all ACPA members from our region together. Being from a small state it has been difficult to collaborate with other ACPA members and I know that this newsletter is a step in the right direc-tion towards helping all professionals in our unique geographical location. I would welcome anyone who is interested in being involved in this effort from VT or any other state to reach out to me at [email protected].
