    INFORMATION ABOUT THE ACLU of ARIZONA

    The ACLU is a non-governmental, non-profit public interest legal organization that principally addresseschallenges to a government law, policy or practice affecting the constitutional rights - that is, therights - of a significant number of people arising in Arizona.

    Almost all of our legal work involves constitutional issues and because the United States ConstitutionConstitution protect only against unlawful government action, we rarely take on disputes involvingcompanies.

    Generally, the ACLU of Arizona only takes on issues that can affect a large number of people directlynumber of people or an individual that could set a precedent that would impact a significant numberespecially interested in issues friat may break new ground in interpreting constitutional rights.

    Violations of constitutional rights and civil liberties are widespread, yet the ACLU of Arizona is a smlimited resources. We receive hundreds of requests for assistance each month and have to turn dowmajority of these requests. However, .not every injustice or issue of unfairness is a matter for thewe are only able to provide legal assistance in a small number of cases.

    The ACLU-AZ will not take on cases that other organizations are better able to handle. Pleaseadditional legal resources for an agency that may be better suited to address your complaint

    The ACLU-AZ is not a general legal service organization and we normally cannot provideemergency services. If your complaint has any time constraints, please do not wait to hear fromother action.

    What We Do:

    The ACLU-AZ handles cases that involve violations of civil liberties and civil rights asArizona and U.S. Constitutions and the Bill of Rights. Civil liberties include the right to due proprotection of the law, freedom of expression; freedom of the press; religious freedom; the right right of privacy; the right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures; and the right to beunusual punishment.
