I have long struggled to overcome the major obstacle of being me, but havelearnt that there is ultimately no overcoming of self.

3. Why did you decide to enter into the education field? Why did youjoin Taylor's?

At no point in my life did I make a conscious decision to become an educator, but with a PhD in philosophy one’s career options are far from legion. Havingentered academia, however, I discovered how important it is for students todevelop an independent, critical cast of mind so that their future decisions in lifewill proceed from integrity of spirit rather than unthinking social conformity.

I joined Taylor’s with the express intention of designing and launching adepartment of English Literature and Humanities.

4. What are your passions in life? What motivates you to want topursue these passions to excellence?

I have an intense passion for teaching literature, especially poetry, for it isthrough the beauty of poetic form and language that one is drawn into an innerworld of human truth and suffering and thereby becomes a less judgmental, more humane and more empathetic human being.

5. What does the future hold for you – any exciting plans, developments?

Over the next couple of years I plan to write the definitive critical work onFriedrich Nietzsche’s magnum opus Thus Spake Zarathustra.

6. What is the one thing people should know about what you do, butdon't?

Nothing. I am an open book.
