Scoring key
(i) Socio- Economic status inventory (SESI)
The items which constituted the socio- economic status scale were
weighed on a scale of 1-10 according to their importance in indicating the socio-
economic status of the respondent's families. Each of the 13 items in the socio-
economic status scale was weighted on a 10 point scale in accordance with the
importance of that particular item in determining the socio- economic status. The
weights given to the items were as follows: Item numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9 and 12
were given the weight of 10 each. Item no's 8,11 and 12 were given a weight of 7
each and item number 13 was given a weight of 5 respectively. The weighted
scores were summed to get the total raw score. The raw scores were converted to
z- score and then T- score.
(ii) Achievement Motivation Inventory (A.M.I)
The scale has 32 items in total where 18 items were positively worded and
14 are negatively worded. Items with positive and negative wording were
arranged randomly in the final scale. the serial numbers of the items with positive
wording are the following. 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24, 26, 28, 29,
30, 31, 32. The serial number of items with negative wordings are : 1, 2, 7, 8, 9,
10, 12, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25 and 27.
The responses to the items were marked at a five point likert format. The
points are completely agree, mostly agree, agree to some extent, mostly
disagree and completely disagree. The scoring weights given to these responses
were 5,4,3,2 and 1 respectively, for positively worded items and 1,2,3,4 and 5
respectively for a negatively worded items. This scoring scheme ensured that
higher scores higher levels of achievement motivation and lower scores indicate
low levels of achievement motivation.

(iii) Classroom climate scale (CCS)
The scale has 36 items, 19 are positively worded and 17 are negatively
worded. The positive and negative items were mixed randomly in the scale. The
serial numbers for positively worded items are 1, 4 ,6 ,8
9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 25, 28, 31, 32, 34 and 36. Similarly items with serial
numbers 2, 3, 7, 11, 13, 14, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30, 33 and 35 are
negatively worded. The four response anchors provided along with the With the
statements were 'always', ' Frequently', ' sometimes' and 'never'. The scoring
weight given to these responses are 4,3,2 and 1 for positively worded items and
1,2,3 and 4 for negatively worded items. The scoring ensured that the higher the
score, the better the perceived classroom climate.
(iv) Home Environmental scale (HES)
The scale has 29 items in total and 24 are positively worded and five are
negatively worded. The positive and negative items are mixed randomly in the
scale. The scale is a 3 point likert type scale. The three point are 'always'
'sometimes' and ' Not at all'. The weight system for these response categories
are 3,2 and 1 respectively for positively worded items and 1,2 and 3 respectively
for negatively worded items.
Serial numbers for items which are positively worded are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 26, 31 and 28. The
negatively worded items were 20, 23, 24, 27 and 29. The scoring ensured that the
higher the scores the better the parental involvement in the child's school work at
home. The lower the score, the lesser the parental involvement in the child's
school work at home.
