A Hybrid Adaptive Network (HAN) provides the warfighter with the capability and resiliency to seamlessly roam among both commercial and purpose-built military communications networks. The built-in interoperability of the HAN allows for future proofing and provides an easy way to optimize and incrementally upgrade existing assets, while also providing the flexibility to adapt to emerging/expanding technologies to outpace near-peer adversary threats. ACHIEVE UBIQUITOUS, RESILIENT, SECURE CONNECTIVITY WITH A HYBRID ADAPTIVE NETWORK

WHAT IS IT?A Hybrid Adaptive Network (HAN) provides the warfighter with the capability and resiliency to seamlessly roam among both commercial and purpose-built military communications networks. The built-in interoperability of the HAN allows for future proofing and provides an easy way to optimize and incrementally upgrade existing assets, while also providing the flexibility to adapt to emerging/expanding technologies to outpace near-peer adversary threats. A Hybrid Adaptive Network can be deployed with today’s private sector technology to support multi-domain battle operations.

WHY DO I NEED IT?

The battlefield network of the future will need to enable multi-domain operations — integrating traditional air, land, and sea oensives with more advanced cybersecurity and space initiatives. This requires a ubiquitous, resilient, secure communications architecture that provides enough flexibility to defeat the increasing competition of the sophisticated near-peer threats that lie ahead.

“Our competitive edge has eroded in every domain of warfare — air, land, sea, space and cyberspace. And it is continually eroding.”— U.S. Defense Secretary, James Mattis

HOW DOES IT WORK?

MULTI-MODE USER TERMINALS› Flexible, interoperable user terminals that

can operate over multiple satellite bands and support multiple waveforms

› Soware-defined terminals that can switch between multiple networks

OPEN STANDARD NETWORK INTERFACE› Specifies the structure of information that

can be exchanged between the HAN Manager and component networks

› A Translation Agent at the soware layer translates the networks’ native control/status facilities into the network interface- defined format

HAN NETWORK MANAGEMENT› Monitor individual users’ mission

demands and available resources to intelligently assign users to the network that best delivers required eects

› Warfighter parameters drive the HAN manager to select the “best available network” based on user demands, geography, economics, and ops tempo
