Newsletter all you need to know about February 84 # From 24-27 February, with sponsorship from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives, the Sports Department at ACER Brasil held its 2nd Training Week of Football for Social Impact. This is a partnership between ACER Brasil and Fundacao Casa’s (São Paulo State Youth Offenders Prison System) Management of Physical Education and Sport, and School for Training and Professional Development. Through practical activities, group games and skill-sharing, 40 physical education professionals explored the possibility of using football and sport as social development tools. The programme aimed to empower these professionals, giving them skills for their education work with young people at the Fundacao Casa, using sport as an important tool for social transformation. The official opening of the 2nd Training Week of Football for Social Impact at the Tiete Club was attended by Stephane Larue, Canadian Consul General, accompanied by Colin Shonk, Consul for Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy. At the event, the Consul General expressed his happiness at being able to work with such an important social project.Following this, Secretary General of ACER Brasil Jonathan Hannay had invited Fundacao Casa’s Manager of Physical Education and Sport, Carlos Robles, to present the Football for Social Development Handbook, a resource developed by our partners at Coaches Across Continents, along with Davi Costa, which provided teaching material to support the training. Regarding the importance of the course for professionals, Carlos Robles said, “our objective is to offer trainers the chance to develop modern teaching style and skills aimed at reinserting young people into society through sport.” Graduation took place on 27th February when the 40 trained coaches received their certificates, as well as a kit containing the ‘Football for Social Development Handbook’ and the famous ‘indestructible balls’, donated by our partners at the One World Play Project. February was also the month of the official opening of the City at School programme, a federal initiative to extend the school day for children in primary school. In partnership with the Municipal Government of Diadema, ACER Brasil will reach 375 children with workshops, using a variety of artistic and cultural methods.

City at School Programme Opening 2015 The official opening took place at the Fundacao Florestan Fernandes, with local authorities and other programme partners present. Representing ACER Brasil were our teaching staff who presented their work in 2014 to all those present with slides and photos. After this, students from the Roots of Brazil programme performed an African dance to liven up the ceremony.

The regular activities will start in the first week of March.
