Trauma Informed Services

1

What are trauma-informed services?

The trauma-informed framework delivers services that acknowledge the common and pervasive impact of trauma. Trauma-informed transformation is a shift toward safety-focused, strength-based, consumer-driven, empowerment-rich programming that allows consumers to take charge of their own recovery, addresses unsafe behaviors and strongly prioritizes deep safety as a platform for recovery. Trauma-informed practice and approaches have been shown to increase client outcomes, staff morale, and program effectiveness.

Santa Cruz Trauma Consortium

The SCTC unites local organizations that serve trauma-exposed populations throughout Santa Cruz County. It offers agencies locally-based opportunities to increase trauma-informed practice and strategize on client and system issues in a collective manner. Santa Cruz County agencies that work with trauma-exposed populations and want to increase knowledge and competencies related to trauma are invited to join the Santa Cruz Trauma Consortium.

For more information on the SCTC, visit trauma-informed-california.org.

Dr. Vincent Felitti & The ACE Study

The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study is between Kaiser Permanente and the CDC when more than 17,000 adult Kaiser. The study began in 1995, when more than 17,000 Kaiser patients were asked about childhood maltreatment and family dysfunction, as well as their current health status and behaviors. Results from the study revealed a strong and proportionate relationship between the number of categories of adverse childhood experiences and adult social, biomedical, and emotional outcomes a half-century later.

Renowned physician and researcher, Dr. Felitti is the co-principal investigator of the ACE Study and an expert on childhood trauma. Once focused on infectious disease, he changed direction by founding the Department of Preventative Medicine for Kaiser Permanante in San Diego, which became the largest single-site comprehensive medical evaluation site in the western world.
