ACDC Design Approach

• Thermal Management

• Junction temperature – ACDC fittings designed not to exceed 105 º C• LED source not equipt to dissipate heat alone• LED must be bonded to another thermally conductive material• Team has strong engineering background along with a wealth of

experience.• Team utilses complex thermal management software which analyses

thermal paths.• Thermal testing ovens are also used to measure luminaire

performance.

– Many LED Sources available – Performance and quality can vary dramatically

– ACDC only work with most reputable LED manufacturers based within Europe and the USA

– ACDC currently work with Cree and Lumileds who are market leaders

– All products are researched and tested before they are incorporated into the ACDC product range.



• LED Selection– Colour temperature and Consistency

• Traditionally very cold hue and poor CRI• Today, very warm colours and excellent CRI• Too often products are released by LED manufacturers

before colour consistency performance is acceptable• Anybody can demonstrate a single LED with outstanding

performance – production volumes often don’t offer the same results

• ACDC test larger volumes of LED’s to ensure continuity prior to release



• LED Selection– Light Output

• Any LED can be specified as 1 watt or 2 watt. This does not define clearly the light output from the fitting itself

• Rebel LED can be bought from Lumileds ranging from 40 lumen parts to 70 lumen parts – All capable of operating up to 2 watts!!

• Critical the Lighting Designer specifies output and wattage, or efficacy of the LED so the project design integrity is maintained



• Optical Design– LED’s deliver a wide light distribution and this light needs to

be harnessed for the LED to deliver a focused and powerful beam.

– ACDC utlilse the most efficient optics delivering around 90% efficiencies

– Evolution – No suitable optic off the shelf, therefore ACDC design team developed a specific product solution.

– Aim to make cold cathode simple and easy to install

– No need for access hatches

– Fully modular solutions feature a reflector chassis with lamps and control gear pre assembled and plug and sockets for simple interconnection.

– Offers significant benefits, both in terms of 70% installation time saving and lighting performance benefits when compared to traditional systems

• ACDC are the only cold cathode manufacturer to continually innovate and not only manufacture lamps but also control gear.

• Our 1-10 volt and DALI solutions will guarantee silent dimming on a project

– important in spa applications, residential, hotels, boardrooms and other corporate area’s

– ACDC’s constant innovation has now led to the creation of the world’s first Cold Cathode control gear that can be dimmed effectively to zero (less than 1%). Nemesis Zero offers outstanding light output performance at 2800 lumens per metre, whilst maintaining the excellent smooth dimming capabilities of its predecessors.

ACDC Approach

Fusion Turnback Electrodes – Machine made

• ACDC are the only company in the world to automate the manufacture of cold cathode lamps with turned back electrodes.

• The fusion process welds the lamp electrode to the glass tube to form an ‘H’ section at each end of the lamp.

• The ACDC fusion process is also 10 times as quick as the ‘hand made’ method, reducing lead-times and improving both manufacturing quality and capacity alike.

Europe’s Largest Cold Cathode Manufacturing Facility

• The ACDC lamp manufacturing facility is one of the most advanced in Europe, with over 15000 square feet dedicated to lamp production.

• Significant investments in state of the art equipment enable us to manufacture high quality cold cathode lamps in volumes exceeding 2000 metres per week (within a single 8-hour shift).

• Due to the specialist nature of the process, the machinery itself has been developed by ACDC to specially suit our requirements, improving manufacturing lead-times and capacity.


ACDC ApproachGlobal Distribution Networks

• With over 42 distributor’s world wide, we can offer in country support to specific projects and clients through our fully trained partners.

• Distributors will arrange the installation on site, often undertaking this themselves and liaise with site to finalise dimensions

• On site mock up’s and samples can be provided directly to the client, along with full product support and training via our partners.
