Lihikai Time Blocks

• 90 Minute Language Arts Block with 30 minute center times 4 days a week

• Trust has to be built with your teachers– You are trying to raise student achievement.– This is not evaluative.– Reinforce their best practices and build upon

their strengths.

Data Needed

• Longitudinal data for each child• What each child’s schedule is for center

time• BMA data for each child• HSA Data for each child• Computer Data for each child on a

computer program• List of each child in pull out services and

what is being taught in the time frame

Leading Questions for the Teacher

• Pick a student that has had academic success

• Tell Me about this student.• This question will put the teacher at ease.

We are not talking about the teaching or the teaching, we are discussing the student.

• Pick another student. • Tell me about this student.

Answers to be looking for

• How well does the teacher know his/her students?

• Do they know what each student is trying to accomplish during center time?

• Do they know if the student is making progress or not?

• Can they access what is working and what is not working for each student?

What can be accomplished

• If a student is not progressing, what can we do to help this student?

• Is the child in the best setting for making progress?

• Do you leave or switch the child’s center time program?

• Let the teacher make this decision with you asking questions.

Center Time

• We gave staff development on center time– Reason for centers– Grade levels mostly create centers together– CC’s help create centers– We sent in support to help them get started

Strategies Must always be adapted

Intentional Strategies during Center Time Are High Challenging and directed towards individual students.
