AMSA Philippines is a non-stock, non-profit, non-governmental advocacyorganization of various medical student associations all over the Philippines. Inorder to improve on our advocacies, it is important to look back on and learn fromthe past. Moreover, the AMSA Philippines Executive Board would like to promotetransparency within the organization and encourage the active participation ofmembers in the organization.

April 2014: Transition Period

AMSA Philippines General Assembly AMSA Philippines held its General Assembly on 04 April. The Executive Boardpresented its accomplishments to the Council of LMOs. Amendments to the AMSAPhilippines 2011 Constitution were also approved by the Council. Lastly, thecandidates for the incoming Executive Board presented their plans before theCouncil.

4 th AMSA Philippines Research CompetitionThe 4 th AMSA Philippines Research Competition was concluded on the last day ofthe NMSC. For the paper category, the winning research was Acute Toxicity andAnti-diarrheal Effect of crude Corchorus olitorius methanolic extract on castor-oilinduced diarrhea in BALB/C mice by Alonsagay DA et al. (ComDRS PLM). For theposter category, the winning research was Compassion Fatigue among ResidentPhysicians at West Visayas State University- Medical Center by Avena J et al.(AMSA WVSU). [Read more]

2 nd Gawad AMSA Project CompetitionThe winner of the 2 nd Gawad AMSA Project Competition, as announced on the lastof the NMSC, was AC SIS (ASMPH) for their project Ignatian Build, followed by therunner-up, MSSR- IPPNW Philippines (UP), for their Arroceros Project. [Readmore]

EXECUTIVE BOARD Team Building and Year PlanningLast 21 April, the AMSA Philippines Executive Board conducted its team-buildingand planning session at Fortune Park Resort, Antipolo, Rizal. The Presidents ofAMSA UERM and AMSA UST also joined the EB.

Yolanda ImmersionTwelve members of AMSA Philippines spent a part of their summer immersing infour Yolanda-hit municipalities of Samar on 25 April to 03 May. They turned overAMSA Philippines donation to UPM-SHS, through DJDSR, and to the municipalitiesthrough their municipal health officers. This immersion was made possible with thecooperation of the Doctors to the Barrios.

AMSEP Malaysia for the Philippines 2014Ten delegates joined AMSEP Malaysia for the Philippines 2014, hosted by UniversitiPutra Malaysia last 26 April to 02 May. Read the full delegation report here .

DELEGATION 35 th Asi an Medical Students Conference

On 27 April, the outgoing Regional Chairperson announced the delegates acceptedto represent AMSA Philippines in AMSC 2014 Thailand. However, on 31 May, AMSAInternational announced the cancellation of the event in light of the coup detat. The academic competitions are still on-going. See the full delegation list here .
