Unintentional injuries (accidents) account for 2% of all deaths

Up to age 60, unintentional injuries (accidents) are the leading cause of preventable years of life lost, accounting for 23% of these YLL

Unintentional injury is the leading cause of preventable YLL until age 75 when it drops to 2nd behind cancer. At 85 years, it drops to 3rd behind cancer and cardiovascular disease.
